to think it is ridiculous that we have to use bin bags when we have wheely bins?

that's it really.
we cannot just put the rubbish into the wheely bin, it has to be bagged or the bin will not be emptied.
how stupid and wasteful is that!

But can you imagine the putrid mess if you just emptied rubbish directly into an 80 litre bin and left it for a week?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 28/11/2012 10:56

YABU - I should imagine if you dont use a bin bag then the wheely bin will end up with all sorts of shit stuck to it, end up stinking to high heaven and encouraging rats and all sorts.

ClippedPhoenix · 28/11/2012 10:56

I agree, mind you just think how your bin would smell though. Not sure I'd want to go wash it every week What if I fell in it?

Now, on consideration of the above YABU

FannyFifer · 28/11/2012 10:57

No bin bags in wheelie bins here.

LavenderPots · 28/11/2012 10:57

just use one big bin bag and stick it too the bin? thats what people round here do...that or use the bags the shops give you

Fenton · 28/11/2012 10:57

I usually bag up into a (supposedly very biodegradable) Tesco's bags as I go through the week.

mumblechum1 · 28/11/2012 10:58

But surely you use a liner in your kitchen bin? So it's just a matter of lifting out that bag of rubbish and slinging it in the wheelie bin.

breatheslowly · 28/11/2012 10:59

We don't have to use binbags here. Obviously we do bag some stuff up. But lots goes straight in without a bag.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 28/11/2012 10:59

Around here, rubbish that isn't bagged tends to get blown away. The day after bin day I have to check over the front garden and pick up all the crap that's accumulated. I agree that it's a bit wasteful, but I'd rather it was all bagged and collected up, than have it scattered about.

AmberLeaf · 28/11/2012 11:01

YABU

Not bagging rubbish would lead to bins being in a foul state, I use bin liners in my kitchen bin, I empty that and tie the bin bag, then into the wheelie bin, im not about to start putting mucky rubbish straight into my kitchen bin either, yuk!

MousyMouse · 28/11/2012 11:01

we have one bin with binliner, the others are bag free. most ist relatively unmessy too, as has compost bind for all food waste.

WorraLiberty · 28/11/2012 11:01

We don't have to use bags here but I always do because the stupid refuse collectors can't be bothered to flip the lids closed after emptying them.

Therefore, all the paper/cardboard etc sticks to the bin and just becomes a damp smelly mess.

MousyMouse · 28/11/2012 11:03

excuse my grammar and spelling Blush

YABU. As well as the wind occasionally blowing bins over, I live on a main road and quite often drunk idiots on their way home decide that it would be 'well hilarious, like' to tip everyone's bins over Hmm I can tell you from bitter experience that a 3am dressing-gown litter pick is a very quick way of bonding with your neighbours.

Saski · 28/11/2012 11:06

I'm all for reducing packaging waste, but I don't think this is a good place to start. The bags make a messy, disgusting enterprise manageable.

MousyMouse · 28/11/2012 11:29

bins are in a bin store, so can't be taken out without a key and mister fox can't tip it out...

OP posts:
DudeIAmSoFuckingRock · 28/11/2012 11:34

eugh! i cant imagine how disgusting teh bins would be if people didn't use bin bags!

Op you can buy large black wheelie bin liners that you can just tip all your stuff into during the week/fortnight and then tie it on bin day so the bin men will empty it.
