to LOVE burnt food?

Is it an unhealthy habit?

I love everything to be a bit burnt - bread, roast potatoes, sausages, even bits of curry or casserole burnt to the bottom of the pan. I love the bitter taste. Mmmmmmm.

Am I alone in this? I certainly am in my house!

Oh yes I love it too! Cold burnt toast with marmalade! Don't think it's very good for you though

toofattorun · 27/11/2012 17:56

Mmm! Me too! Other people call it burnt but I call it cooked properly.

CailinDana · 27/11/2012 17:57

I know a couple of people who also like burnt food. Try not to eat too much of it though, burnt food is carcinogenic.

tetleymel · 27/11/2012 17:58

Is it definitely carcinogenic? So, I am BU.

Ooooo, yes, burnt cold toast with marmalade. Heaven!

I just 'overcooked' the onion rings. Yum!

quirrelquarrel · 27/11/2012 18:00

I'm eating soggy pizza (microwaved) and it's yummy. My friend looked at it in utter disgust and said "that's not pizza!".

Let's leave the boring haute-cuisiners to their weird tastes! Grin

mignonette · 27/11/2012 18:01

Burned meat is carcinogenic. Please don't eat it too often.....Sad

McChristmasPants2012 · 27/11/2012 18:02

I love the burnt bits on the pan as it add so much flavour to sauces, but not to eat.

Steak is best cooked slightly under medium :)

tetleymel · 27/11/2012 18:03

Ah, I don't eat meat (vegan), mignonette. Does this mean I'm ok to indulge in my burnt bliss?!

sausagesandwich34 · 27/11/2012 18:10

no you shouldn't eat burnt food, it's all bad

plus -why would you????

PessaryPam · 27/11/2012 18:11

Burnt sausages rolled in buttered white sliced bread with lashings of salt. Yum.

mignonette · 27/11/2012 18:13

I'm unsure about non meat but my Father died of stomach cancer this summer and the gastric oncologist was absolutely firm in warning us not to eat burned meat or too much BBQ as we have a genetic/familial tendency to gastric cancers.

YankTeeDoodleDanTee · 27/11/2012 18:13

Some things have to be burnt.

Everything causes cancer, eat what you want.

Inertia · 27/11/2012 18:13

Uurgh. YABU.

I have a bit of a phobia of burnt stuff- any burnt food but also matches, fires etc. Makes my skin creep.

redlac · 27/11/2012 18:14

I freakin love burnt toast with the butter soaking into it. Oh and the really well done bits at the ends of roasts when they are all burnt and chewy

LineRunner · 27/11/2012 18:16

I recall the correlation between Americans eating masses of barbecued meat and cancer.

So I stick to burnt fish pie and potatoes. And toast. And spinach lasagne.

Shodan · 27/11/2012 18:17

My mum makes the best burnt Welsh cakes.

Much yuminess. Fortunately she only makes them very very occasionally otherwise I'd be the size of a detached house with land.

pumpkinsweetie · 27/11/2012 18:19

Mmmm burnt sausages & burnt toast-delish if a bit unhealthyBlush
Those cooked sausages in Tesco could always do with being cooked for some time longer, they look so pink

DellPrinter · 27/11/2012 18:22

My friend is doing a phd in the effects of burnt meat and it is widely accepted now that burnt BBQ or other burnt food can cause cancer. Please don't make a habit of this.

AThingInYourLife · 27/11/2012 18:24

I don't know why toasters have setting lower than dark brown a crunchy.

If I wanted my bread just slightly warmed I could sit on it.
