To secretly lust after the cakes in the Iceland Xmas advert?

Iceland gets a right slating from lots of people on MN, and I stay well clear of the place myself. However, I do find myself drooling over the cakes (especially the Baileys ones) on their Xmas ad, despite them being kind of cheap and nasty.

So, AIBU to secretly lust after Icelend cakes and maybe get a big creamy one in for Xmas? My friends would be horrified! Grin

Yuck. Just watching the advert gives me heartburn.

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 20:34

Well it did have icelands straight cup chips on the plate to sole Grin was cheaper then the wholesalers.

I've nothing against Iceland per se, it's just all the mini buffet stuff that makes me feel a bit ick. Which is strange because I am greedy.

SIL/MIL are fans though, so we will be treated to a selection over Christmas. Yes, I agree the strawberries in choc last year were pretty grim. I think I've blanked the rest out.

The lasagne bites in the current advert have DH and I shuddering. Blee.

Those little cream slices are dead nice. Honest.

FunBagFreddie · 26/11/2012 20:53

I wouldn't buy any processed meat from Iceland, but I am eager to try the cake!

I bought a Sarah lee type Black Forest gateaux yesterday. Not from Iceland but its the sort of thing they'd sell. Was £1.50 for a good size cake.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/11/2012 20:55

Tesco used to sell baileys cheesecake and its lovely.

Iceland is my fave Xmas advert!
I never buy though as my little freezer is already full the whole time

Mandy2003 · 26/11/2012 21:08

That kind of Black Forest gateaux used to be a Christmas tradition for me - the day before Christmas Eve I'd buy and eat a whole one myself. Don't do it now, it's Baileys in mid-November now that puts me in the Christmas mood.

The packets of mixed frozen fish (pollock, haddock and salmon, I think?!) are good value. I make a mean fish pie with mine.

Love this, have just informed DH we're having Iceland tea on Friday and he looked at me like Hmm

I married up.

ArtVandelay · 26/11/2012 21:43

If I offered my DH Iceland tea he would look at me like he never realised just how in love he was with me. He loves all that battered beige salty nibble stuff. He's never seen an Iceland, he'd probably think he'd gone to heaven if he did. I think I married down :)

They do a marshmallow/ ice cream/ mousse thing which is bloody amazing.
