ive got 4 children and ive got them around 15 presents each for christmas that mil knows about she offered to store them in her spare room so the children didnt find them, we wont be doing this again btw

she was telling her sister today when we were there how disgusting it is how much ive bought them, bloody stupid it is, they can only play with one at once.. shes obviously never seen a toddler in a pirate costume, wearing a tool belt full of cars riding a bike while pulling a wheelbarrow

is she just being miserable?
she insisted we put them there btw, so she could nosy i didnt ask her

Hawkins Bazaar are still online, for the person who is missing them. I'm putting in an order tomorrow!

And 15 presents isn't a lot in my house - they only get presents from me, and they only get presents on Birthdays and Christmas. The 15 presents include small things like Roald Dahl books I have picked up for £1.50 (cheaper than a comic!), and things I have picked up from Charity shops, or Poundland, like a toy sword for DS3!

YANBU. If you want to buy your kids 15 huge presents, 15 tiny presents or whatever, and can afford to do so then it's not "disgusting". I struggle to get my head around any form of judgment on what parents buy for their children at Christmas.

15 presents doesn't sound a huge number unless they're huge/expensive. I'd expect to do between 15-20.

But I would usually include in that some things they would need anyway. Often they get a new toothbrust, pants/socks, music book for their instrument, more pencils for school, pyjamas... infact probably 3/4 of the presents are things they'd have to get anyway, just I choose to wrap them up as it makes it more fun for them.

Yanbu

DSC have more than that I haven't counted but they must have about 40 presents each, sounds excessive but we've spent about £80 total on them both.

We've bought them a bag each so their dm can stop sending them with clothes in carrier bags and have wrapped all their presents and put them in the bag which we have wrapped so it looks like they only have 1 present each, we also bought them a tin each they both love drawing so they can keep pens etc in there which we have filled with small presents also wrapped, then the tin wrapped and put into the bag, they also have a stocking each.

For all you know, OP has bought 2 or 3 large presents and the rest are all small but lovely toys, like a small toy car or something. It's not bragging.

I think she WBU for being so rude to you. I have one DC who is an only grandchild and my family spoils her rotten. I don't think I have more than 15 though but then most are small things anyway.

I am more terrified of where you would put 60 additional things in your house? Our house is bursting with the toys from one child!

mercibucket · 28/11/2012 08:30

Mil was being really horrible to talk about you and the presents like that. V rude and unnecessary

Also, entirely up to you how many pressies you get. Also.n if you have little kids, 15 presents can look massive and cost very little, not that it matters, it's still rude to say!
