To suggest DH turn off Finding Nemo

DS normally only watches CBeebies. DH thought it would be nice for the two of them to sit on the sofa and watch a film this afternoon. He put finding nemo on. DS (3) has basically been in tears since the beginning of the the film. Really really upset at the film. I told DH to turn the film off half an hour ago but he thinks DS needs to see the happy ending. if DS ends up having nightmares then I'm not bloody well getting up with him.

It's a very sad movie. I'd skip it to the end so that he knows that Nemo finds his father. Poor mite sounds very sensitive. Sad

lurkedtoolong · 25/11/2012 18:23

I agree with your DH you can't turn off until there's been a happy ending.

Twiddles · 25/11/2012 18:23

My dd saw nemo around age 3
Bawled her eyes out, but loved it, and wanted to watch it again and again ....

TidyDancer · 25/11/2012 18:24

Yep, your DH is in the right. The best way to combat upset over a film is to see the happy ending.

Leave the bastard if he ever puts Bambi on though.

Fairylea · 25/11/2012 18:24

We ff to Nemo's first day of school in this house Sad

AndFanjoWasHisNameO · 25/11/2012 18:27

Oh dear Sad Nemo is very very sad, I saw it for the first time recently (aged 36) and was traumatised. I always start it 10 mins in after the really stressful bits. Agree that it would help to see the happy ending though-make time to talk about it afterwards too to avoid any bad dreams

Startail · 25/11/2012 18:28

I'm not mad on finding Nemo, it's very one dimensional. Too few jokes. I find all that water dull.

Sharks, initiation into tank, being caught.

I'm sure DD1 wouldn't have liked it at 3, DD2 would have wandered of, she didn't do full length films at 3

EndoplasmicReticulum · 25/11/2012 18:30

I used to skip the beginning. His mum, and all his brothers and sisters get eaten by a barracuda. That's not really what you want in a kids film.

The beginning of Up made me cry.

midnightisaplace · 25/11/2012 18:31

Film is over and DS is now in hysterics. The happy ending seems to have passed him by. He wants to know what happened to Nemo's mother.

Nemo's mum is having a holiday. She's going to return a little later. Sad

complexnumber · 25/11/2012 18:34

So there was only 10 mins (or less) to go when you made your OP?

Fairylea · 25/11/2012 18:35

Nemos mum left his dad after he got jiggy with Dory.

goingupinsmoke · 25/11/2012 18:35

OMG I hate that film gave my DS nightmares for weeks when he was about 3 - he is 9 now and have never watched it again!

CheerMum · 25/11/2012 18:35

I told dd that nemo's mom went on holiday with the barracuda.

midnightisaplace · 25/11/2012 18:38

I might wait a while before trying DS with a film again. Thing is I love disney films and can't wait until I have an excuse to watch them agin with DS.

My very sentimental Dd can't handle any movie that involves anyone ever being separated from either parent (nearly 4), which rules out almost the entire Disney canon.

WasLostNowamFound · 25/11/2012 18:43

Arf'ed at Fairylea's take on it.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/11/2012 20:11

stick with the jungle book, that was my ds's first disney

fedupoftheworrying · 25/11/2012 20:17

EcclesCakes The Jungle Book is sad too :( when he's trying to wake Baloo up I always end up bawling.

You'd be struggling to find a Disney film that isn't somewhat sad or frightening - I have cried at most if not all of them.. Think that's why they're so good though. Mary Poppins is good but it's sad/scary as well at parts.

fedupoftheworrying · 25/11/2012 20:21

Mind you - there is an Andrex advert that used to send me into hysterics so I am not the best judge of such things, I cry very easily at things that aren't even sad!

TunaPastaBake · 25/11/2012 20:40

Get Bambi on ! Grin

Gigondas · 25/11/2012 20:43

The bit in the lion king where the dad lion dies has in turn got both dss and dd. we also had to stop watching miracle on 34th street as no amount of reassurance that the little girl gets a new dad in the end would console dd.

For some reason bit at beginning of nemo has bypassed dd but maybe as she isn't that keen on whole film.
