Usually work 3 days so do all the housework, shopping etc becuase in the words of DP ' i have two days off'.

DP had two days holiday this week so i worked the full week, cus we are busy at work and its extra money for christmas. So i've had to do everything at weekend, went shopping and did cleaning yesterday morning, then took DS swimming this morning and then play area, then ironing this afternoon. washing and hanging it up thoughout as we don't have a drier.

Anyway we didn't get back from swimming until 1 so i did some pasta for me and DS as i couldn't really make him wait 1.5 to 2 hours while i cooked sunday dinner. Was intending to do dinner for about 5ish but then really couldn't be arsed so didn't bother. DP has sat on his arse all day, DS was really tired by about 4 so wouldn't have eaten much anyway, i've got a sore throat so don't really feel like a big dinner. DP hasn't said anything but has abit of a face on him saying how tired he feels!!

Gave DS some bread and soup and i've had some roses!!

As long as children have been fed that's all that matters! Not having a roast won't harm anyone.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 25/11/2012 18:21

Amen to that!

So why has your DP not done all the housework and cooking this week?

My dh grew up thinking it was the law. When mil started working weekends he was about 8. His dad was in charge and served up fish and chips on the Sunday. Dh actually phoned his mum at work to ask if that was allowed

Op yanbu your husband is a lazy shit.

WinklyVersusTheZombies · 25/11/2012 18:28

Why didn't he do everything when he had two days off, lazy sod?

AThingInYourLife · 25/11/2012 18:28

He really is a lazy shit:

Morph2 · 25/11/2012 18:29

well MrsMango thats the question!! TBH we have a 2.5 year old so he is quite a hand full and i don't manage to get alot of housework done when i'm looking after him, we tend to go out and about having fun!! I tend to do my housework at the weekends anyway although i do usually go shopping and do the washing during the week.

He cooked dinner for when i got home both nights and washed up so i think i am expected to be eternally grateful for that (not that i am not grateful it was nice)

It's very rare i do a sunday lunch on a sunday, and the next full roast will be christmas dinner.

today i cooked chicken, bacon, cheese and mushroom omellete with home made chips and salad.

RosemaryHoyt · 25/11/2012 18:29

Depends, did you invite your friend Rosemary and her kids over, then send your H out to apologise, you were lying on the sofa post 3 day bender and CBA about promised roast that you didn't bother to cancel? When Rosemary had kindly made a Bramble crumble? When and Rosemary's DS started crying because he wanted to see your son, as you had promised!

No? Then you are not as bad as my 'friend' was today so feet up and enjoy non roast day. Mine we thrilled that a roast had become a consolation soft pay and chips/beans/fish finger day! Grrr. Hijack, but had to vent.

CMOTDibbler · 25/11/2012 18:30

Does he not know how to cook ? Or wash ? Or clean for that matter. He needs to get a grip and fast

dizzy77 · 25/11/2012 18:32

I am a Sunday roast resister. I do understand the importance of a proper sit down meal and Sunday lunchtime is one of the few times in the week we can all demonstrate using knives and forks to my 18mo DS, but there is usually so much going on on a Sunday I don't want to spend it all in the kitchen. I'll do a big dinner Saturday night, and something relatively simple but wholesome for Sunday lunch, eg sausage toad or today pancakes & bacon. So no. Yanbu.

FredFredGeorge · 25/11/2012 18:32

I don't think my DP has ever cooked a roast, and she's a SAHP at the moment... So YANBU.

amillionyears · 25/11/2012 18:38

Your dp hasnt complained. Didnt know that everyone still did sunday roasts every Sunday.
Enjoy your evening, and less dishes than normal.

hiddenhome · 25/11/2012 18:45

YANBU A roast every Sunday is old fashioned. I honestly don't know how people find the time to bother with all that.

btw, a good 'cheat's roast dinner' involves: a ready roasted chicken from the supermarket, some mashed potato, selection of frozen vegetables, gravy and frozen yorkshire puddings - all you have to do is peel the spuds and put the veg onto boil Smile

Granted, it's not a gourmet job, but I find that husbands and kids eat it quite happily anyway Grin

faulkernegger · 25/11/2012 19:37

YANBU. You've done enough this week. Put your feet up.

FredFredGeorge · 25/11/2012 19:56

There's no point having a "cheat's roast dinner" - it's not a roast unless there are roast potatoes in any case so that's a cheat of a completely different meal... Meat and Mash... (Oh and YABU for peeling spuds for mash!)

I cook a roast dinner most weekends (not necessarily on a sunday, and also not as often in the summer.)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/11/2012 19:59

DH just made us veggy burgers in rolls with fried onions and cheese on top, served with tomato in garlic, cucumber and pepper and a few lush home made chips. I luffs him.

MrsPnut · 25/11/2012 20:02

A roast dinner is one of the easiest meals to make IMO, but you are free to do what ever you want. I make a roast most weeks and prep it so it starts cooking whilst we are still at rugby.

If I don't make a roast on a Sunday then we usually go to the pub for lunch during the winter.

I had roasts rammed down my throat every Sunday for 22 years while I lived at home, like it was the law, and woe betide any Sunday when I dared to miss it - if I did it was presented to me cold upon my return home. Hence I am not a fan of roasts! And it fucks me off all the effort making it and tidying up. But occasionally I do make one, because the rest of the family like it. I prefer the pudding!
Give me a takeaway, preferably curry, any day of the week!

CaliforniaLeaving · 25/11/2012 20:32

I never do a proper Sunday dinner, I love it, but can't do a nice roast to save my life. Always too dry or not cooked, so we get a normal dinner just like in the week. Today it's Chicken breasts and mashed potatoes and carrots.
I think once we move back to UK I'll start a tradition of take out on Sundays, have a day off.
