To want someone to diagnose whatever I've got and make it go away

Some of this is TMI so you may wish to look away now. For the past 2 years I have been having weird 'episodes' that occurr about once every 2 months. Suddenly it's like a switch goes in my body and I am instantly incredibly hot, my palms, chin and vagina itch like mad. I have a rising pain in my gullet and a massive stomach ache. Last night I had recently eaten and was massively sick and had loads of diaorrhea, if I haven't eaten recently I sometimes just feel terribly sick and feel like I need to 'go'. Once that has gone off a bit I then start shaking and feel cold and then wait for the stomach pain to subside which takes about a hour sometimes. It's like a mega period pain. Once it's all gone it's gone and the next day I just feel drained and have a sore stomach. I have been checked over with a brain scan, electrodes on the head and all that and they can see nothing wrong. The consultant says it's caused by lack of blood flow to the brain and it's just one of the weird things the body does and they don't understand it but there is nothing they can do. So far they have always occurred whilst I am at home but I'm terrified they will happen whilst I'm out and about or at work. I know it's not like having a serious disease or anything but I'm a bit fed up! Anyone else had this?

I have similar and it's just been labelled as a stomach migraine

If it is every other month could it be linked to ovulation? I get really bad ovulation pains, not as severe as you describe but enough to make me have to lie down for a while and I usually feel sick and am left with a dull ache.

Is it on one side as you describe it like period pain? I have been told mine is the egg "erupting". Have a look at your calendar and see if there is a pattern.

IBS?
I had that when eating a lot of soy products which I now know I am intolerant to.

theode · 25/11/2012 16:38

Thanks for your thoughts.
Dozy, surely the consultant would have given that diagnosis if that is what I've got????
Silver, yes I thought that too, but have kept a log of when it happens and it doesn't seem to be linked although initially I thought it was. The hospital totally poo pooed it being anything gynae. The pain isn't on one side.

LeMous, surely IBS wouldn't cause the mad itching and shaking would it??

You aren't unreasonable to want it to go away but that doesn't mean it will. There are lots and lots of diagnoses out there which aren't curable or treatable and the best thing you can do is adapt yourself around them. It sounds as if your consultant has given you a diagnosis but it might help you to have more time to talk about it and understand it?

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 25/11/2012 17:26

shaking, yes definitely, and almost fainting (vagal reflex or something) and itching due to irritability (almost allergy like).
Has your liver function been tested?
have you notice it is after eating or drinking something special? chinese take away?

"The consultant says it's caused by lack of blood flow to the brain " but they found something, isn't it?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/11/2012 19:06

HMMM CHECK OUT YOUR LIVER, oops sorry for shouting, bloody caps lock

Idocrazythings · 25/11/2012 19:18

Have you considered if a chiropractor may help to release any nerves that are sending mixed messages to your body/brain??

cumfy · 26/11/2012 23:54

Cholestasis ?

I'm not medically qualified but it's the thing that jumped into my head, basically gallstones blocking the bile duct.
I'm surprised a GP would not think similarly.
Have you ever noticed you are a little yellow ?

There are blood tests, so a GP appt could probably go a fair way to making a diagnosis.

TheFarSide · 26/11/2012 23:58

It sounds like an allergic reaction to me - but presumably ruled out by your consultant?
