Outside my kitchen window i have a 6ft fence about 3meters from the window. Now my neighbour has gone and erected a tent like Gazebo the other side of the fence which must be at least 8ft tall .it really is affecting my light and has taken any view i had of the miniscule sunset i had and the view to some trees which i always enjoyed.I believe there is nothing i can do as far as the law goes because i remember enquiring about it some years ago when he pulled the same stunt back then but the gazebo didn't last that time due to the high winds i think.(I'm hoping the same will happen to this one).He has only just moved it in this position today because of the recent high winds etc..I have just been to the council offices but they were closed. The man is a very aggresive person and a neighbour from hell with a family to match. What do you suggest i do?

There's nothng you can do in law. The planning department won't be able to help with a gazebo

If you can't talk to the neighbour about it then you'll have to wait for the winds

honeytea · 23/11/2012 17:10

I'd ignore it if I were you, no point making a fuss with a horrid neighbour for the sake of the glimpse of a sunset.

Thanks you i thought as much as far as there is nothing i can do.I really must bite my tongue here.Don't you just hate bullies

honeytea it's not really the sunset that i'm bothered about(but i do like it) it is the general darkness of my kitchen which does annoy me.Anyhow thanks for the advice

It won't last long.
We have learnt the hard way. Even with better guy ropes, big pegs and tying it to the fence, the wind will trash your gazebo.

if it doesn't a razor blade though the stitching where the guys attach to the roof might help.

NoraGainesborough · 23/11/2012 17:41

What is it up for? Is there for an event or will he be keeping it?

OhYoubadbadKitten · 23/11/2012 17:44

If you are in the SE - then it could be very windy in the early hours of Sunday - met office have got a warning out.

CaliforniaLeaving · 23/11/2012 17:45

If it's the tent kind you won't need to wait long, the canvas part will be ripped to shreds and gone in no time.

honeytea · 23/11/2012 17:46

I hope it falls down soon, there isn't much light at this time of year anyway. Maybe a few nice candles will tide you over :)

Sorry everybody i was a bit busy and didn't check the thread thanks for the replies.

Nora he keeps it up so he can work on his motorbike and other stuff under it.
The gazebo seems to be permanately up and he moves it round the garden (a few months here and a few months there)

Lets hope it gets blown away this week end

Our garden has zero shade. We have found that Gazebos last about two summers before the UV weakens the fabric and things like the tapes attaching the guys give way (hence suggesting leaning over the fence and "helping the ageing process").

Our garden is pretty exposed and any attempt to keep gazebos up once the autumn gales start results in the ending up wrapped round the climbing frame).

Thanks Startail , that gives me hope Smile
