Talking about wedding dresses

AIBU to think people would/could wear them again if there was an opportunity? Or bridesmaid dresses for those who haven't got one!

It's a pondering I've had for a while about a charity fundraising event and that thread kick started the musings again, but I could be totally U and no one would consider digging them out of storage!?

I would wear mine again if I had the opportunity, it cost a bloody FORTUNE so it would be nice to get some wear out of it.

whatacolddaytoday · 23/11/2012 00:00

....anyone got one I can borrow? No cheap tat please. Grin

Icelollycraving · 23/11/2012 00:03

I'd love to wear mine again. I however don't go out really so that would rule me out attending a wedding dress do.

mammyof5 · 23/11/2012 00:05

i would wear mine again but would have to pick my favorite half Grin Grin

redandwhitesprinkles · 23/11/2012 00:12

I am too fat and therefore would be sad that I couldn't come as a bride or bridesmaid!

BrevilleTron · 23/11/2012 07:04

In Brum the Botanical Gardens do something called the Moth Ball where married couples get to dress up in all their finery. I'm gonna give it a bash next year.

DameEnidsOrange · 23/11/2012 07:16

My friend organised a charity do where everyone came in their wedding dressers. Raised a lot of money. Depressed those that couldn't fit back into theirs though.

CleansLate · 23/11/2012 07:18

A bunch of us got married within about a year of each other and we often talk about having a wedding dress party! Haven't done it yet which is just as well for me because I couldn't get back into mine!

lightrain · 23/11/2012 07:37

This is why I sold mine a few months after the wedding. It was the most beautiful, gorgeous dress I have ever owned or worn, but in all honestly I would never wear again. By selling quickly after the wedding I got half of the price I paid back [smug] :)

FreyaFridays · 23/11/2012 07:38

I've often wondered what on earth I would do if I had a lovely wedding dress one day... It just seems a bit depressing to think of it sat in a box in the loft for years. I think I'd have to give it away/to someone.

CleansLate · 23/11/2012 07:41

I like the idea of making it into a christening dress but I already had my DCs when I got married! I couldn't part with it, I designed it myself and absolutely love it still. I might get it made into something anyway, for future GCs or something. Or put it under glass like Catharine Middleton's, I love it that much (not that I have the space, but anyway...)

Sokmonsta · 23/11/2012 08:00

I know someone who had theirs framed in a massive box frame and hung it at the top of the stairs. Stunning piece of work.

I did consider having the detailing from mine made into a picture we could hang after seeing her dress. But I have worn it again and while I still want to bar losing a few pounds it's a lovely dress to wear to garden party/christening/formal occasions as it wasn't a wedding dress but one from the posh frocks section in debenhams.

Softlysoftly · 23/11/2012 09:37

Dame Breville that's exactly what I want to do, so pleased to hear it works thank you!

I would love the opportunity to wear my wedding dress again, and would go to an event where I could just for the sake of wearing it.

When you organise whatever you organise, can I come please? Grin

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 23/11/2012 09:45

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a party to which people were supposed to wear whatever they would have been wearing 20 years ago. There were several wedding dresses (including mine) and some very sad 80s outfits.

SantaisBarredfromhavingStella · 23/11/2012 09:51

Awwww, I'd love to wear my beautiful dress again-that's if it still fits of course........Blush

Softlysoftly · 23/11/2012 10:04

If I can get my ass in gear it will be in Cardiff for Group B Strep Outraged. I shall start a thread to inform then get kicked by MNHQ?

There was a big charity fundraising event a few years back called 'The Big 'I Do' Redo' where everyone went in wedding gear. If you google you might find more info about it. I was up for it but ended up being 8.5m pregnant at the time so hardly able to squeeze a thigh into my dress, let alone the rest of my body!

CwtchesAndCuddles · 23/11/2012 13:45

McMillan did something along these lines a few years ago. I went to a disco / fundraisers with 4 friends and we all wore our wedding dresses. You should have seen the taxi drivers face when he picked us up!!!

It was a very funny evening - we played party games and didn't stop laughing. It was funny seeing all the different fashions / styles of dressess over the years - quite a few 1980s numbers with puffy sleves!!

BridgetBidet · 23/11/2012 14:27

I would so be up for an event where I got to wear my dress again. It is in a bit of a poor state though cos I enjoyed myself very much at my wedding and did lots of Irish dancing and it is vv ripped. Would have to wear in a Miss Havisham decayed dress styleee.

But would love a rewearing charity event if that is what you're asking.

Oh has just occurred to me will be 3 sizes too small!

cardamomginger · 23/11/2012 14:31

I think it's a great idea!

DragonMamma · 23/11/2012 14:34

I would wear mine again (if I hadn't sold it!) but I have 3 bridesmaids dresses to choose from and I am local to you so would be interested in an event...

ClutchingMyPearls · 23/11/2012 14:59

I didn't even get to wear mine once! I chucked the fucker pre-wedding.

Anyone one want it??! It would be very handy if you do get invited to a wedding dress party in the future. Or a wedding. As a bride Wink
