To not give dd dinner?

Dd has been off school unwell today. She perked up a bit in the afternoon but went back to sleep at 3 and has been asleep since. No vomiting but had complained of tummy pain and temperature has been up and down.
She hasn't eaten much today, some weetabix this morning and half a banana at lunch. One dose of Calpol and one of Ibuprofen through the day.
It's getting late and it doesn't seem like she is going to wake up herself.
Should I just leave her to sleep or should I wake her and try and get some food and drink in her?
I'm a bit reluctant to give any more medicine in the evening or night if she hasn't eaten?
Dd is 6 btw.

Does she still have fever?

If not, or not too high (below 38.5) I would let her sleep and be prepared that she wakes up hungry in a few hours and then give her a snack.

BumbleBee2011 · 22/11/2012 18:52

I'd let her sleep and just get a snack ready in case she wakes up in the night.

Hope she's better soon Smile

Teabagtights · 22/11/2012 18:52

If she gets hungry give her dry biscuits or toast.

LadyMaryChristmas · 22/11/2012 18:53

Just make sure she's drinking, food isn't important at the moment. I'd wake her for a drink to be honest.

FredFredGeorge · 22/11/2012 18:54

Let her sleep - feed her when she wakes up.

Temp has been up and down but not higher than 38.5, just took it again and it's 37.8 although she is sweating buckets. Disturbed her while taking her temperature and managed to get a few mouthfuls of water into her, she is asleep again already. Thanks for the replies, you would think I would know what to do after almost 7 years of motherhood but sometimes I just doubt myself! Blush

I'd leave her, offer toast if she wakes hungry, my 6 yr old gas the sand bug and is just not interested in food today.

Sleep is the best medicine!

She has the same symptoms dd had when she had a Urinary Tract Infection but ended up in hospital with suspected appendicitis.

Just make sure she has plenty of fluids regardless of what is wrong with her. Dd's nurses told me that the most important thing is to keep children hydrated - food they can always catch up on later when they are better.

whatacolddaytoday · 22/11/2012 19:11

Have you got some fruit juice or something like that? Also, listen to what she says she wants, I think one's body is good at identifying what is "right" - if she feels she can keep it down/is craving it then it's probably alright!

Hope she feels better soon Smile

Runoutofideas · 22/11/2012 19:20

My dd (age 7) was very poorly with a UTI a couple of months ago. The symptoms sound the same. Tummy pain but no D and V, high temperature whcih didn't seem to get better for a couple of days. Has she been complaining of tummy ache on and off for a while? Eventually I took her to the drs and she had antibiotics which killed it off (after the second course). With hindsight I wish I'd taken her to the docs sooner as she would have recovered more quickly.

The fluid is definitely the most important. My dd was very nearly hospitalised with dehydration after being poorly for 3 days. Hope your dd gets better soon.

WilsonFrickett · 22/11/2012 19:24

I would wake her every hour for a sip of water, until you go to bed. And docs in the morning. Poor wee thing. I'm just the same she DS7 is ill by the way - 7 years of experience goes out the window Blush

MammaTJ · 22/11/2012 19:25

I would sponge her down and get her to drink.

dancemom · 22/11/2012 19:48

Well she has woken up and is bright as a button! Has devoured two pieces of toast, more weetabix and a big glass of juice! And maybe TMI but she is passing some stinky wind!! Thanks everyone for the replies, especially the UTI suggestions, would never have thought of that. Hoping it was just a bug but will bear UTI in mind if it carries on.
Going to give her a bath and try and get her back to bed - although not sure she will be keen after sleeping for almost 4 hours!
Thanks again Grin

Oh, if she's dehydrated try some ORS tablets (rehydration salts), I hit mine in tesco, she finds them nicer than dioralyte and they've pepped her right up.

treas · 22/11/2012 20:07

dancemom - please to hear she has perked up

WilsonFrickett · 22/11/2012 20:07

Grin great she's perked up. She will now be up till midnight, of course.

dancemom · 22/11/2012 20:09

That's what I'm worried about! Wink

Hate to be down on this but stinky farts often mean the runs are on the way for my DC. We've all had norovirus this week and DS started with temp and sleepiness...

But I'm sure she's fine!
