I have lost 3 stone.

I did this over a year and 2 months so not too quickly imo.

I would now like to lose another 10 lbs but have been told by my son that i am anorexic,i am not,i just need to get some more weight off then i think i will be happy.

I think that as my oldest son and i have a very close bond he probably worries more than he should,he has moved out and doesn't see me every day so maybe finds it strange when he see the " new me"

WorraLiberty · 22/11/2012 20:44

I mean not necessarily

Chubfuddler · 22/11/2012 20:49

If you're obsessing about the number on the scales that's not good. I think you've got hooked on the buzz of losing weight. You need a different buzz.

legohouse · 22/11/2012 20:55

i don't think i am obsessing...just ready for the next phase,i have stayed at this weight for a while and am now ready to try to lose some more,i don't think that is obsessing?

Me thinks the lady does protest too much. A size 4 on a 40 year old does not look good.

StuntGirl · 22/11/2012 20:58

But you are within a healthy bmi now, so goal achieved, no?

It does sound like you're developing unhealthy habits and to be honest if you were my friend/family I'd be worried enough to keep an eye on you.

StuntGirl · 22/11/2012 21:00

Weght loss is NOT something you 'stick at for a while before moving onto the next size'. What happens after you've been at 7 stone for a while, move onto 6 stone, 5 stone?

legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:00

teabagtights i am not a size 4,as i said i am a size 8

OP posts:
PetFox · 22/11/2012 21:01

Whats with the size 4 talk teabags? From what she's said the OP is not going to end up a size 4 (assuming she has a skeleton) or be underweight.

PetFox · 22/11/2012 21:02

X post OP :)

legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:02

i go to a slimming club,we are encouraged to lose weight slowly and to break it down into chunks so to speak,so as not to be overwhelmed

OP posts:
legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:03

actually in some shops,a size 10

OP posts:
legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:05

stuntgirl i guess it is goal acheived on paper, but surely it is the individual's preference? Only i know how i look/feel without my clothes on!

dontcallmehon · 22/11/2012 21:12

I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 9 stone 3, which gives me a Bmi of about 20 or so. I'm hoping to lose another half stone, so I don't think wanting to be on the slim side of healthy makes you anorexic! I have had eating disorders, btw. When I did have a real, full blown eating disorder, no one commented as I weighed 10 stone and looked normal! I don't have an eating disorder now.

Chandon · 22/11/2012 21:12

I would question exactly why you want to be at the very bottom range of a healthy bmi, as you say upthread.

To me that seems a strange goal that points towards some issue with numbers ( weight, bmi) rather than concern about health or wellbeing.

Narked · 22/11/2012 21:12

If you have weight in specific areas that you want to shift, you might find targeted exercise more effective than just diet eg for your bottom or arms.

legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:16

Chandon,i would say that i am aiming for the lower end of my bmi as i am not very muscular and am of a small frame

legohouse you may not actually realise what you look like.

I lost a lot of weight a few years back. I'm talking six/seven stones. My mind hadn't quite caught up with my physical appearance though.

I walked past a shop window one day and saw a reflection. I was looking through a dark glass window one day and thought there was a woman on the other side of the window wearing an identical suit to the one I was wearing. I thought I wish I looked like that in mine. I then suddenly realised that it was my own reflection I was looking at. I was shocked. I still thought of myself as fat, even though I wasn't.

It explained why my friends and family were telling me I'd lost enough weight and that I was beginning to look gaunt.

Incidentally, I was only barely reaching the normal BMI at that point, but my body suited that weight.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes · 22/11/2012 21:21

I'm 5ft 2,8st10 and a 12 - I could definitely do with losing another 10lb if I wanted to actually be slim which I do but not quite as much as I like chocolate and wine.

StuntGirl · 22/11/2012 21:28

You've been losing at an average of 3lbs per week which is a little over healthy weight loss targets, you're aiming for the bottom end of the bmi targets and you admit you eat a limited diet. To be honest I think your son is right to be concerned, but I wouldn't go as far as to say you are anorexic. I think you are showing possible anorexic tendencies though iyswim?

legohouse · 22/11/2012 21:42

I admit i do like the buzz i get from losing weight,my mother is very tiny and is always telling me i am not slim enough yet,i still am carrying weight on my upper arms for example...

Yes, there is a problem with getting a buzz from losing weight.

That 'high' you feel is your brain being starved of vital nutrients. It sounds as if you're too weight focused and not life or health focused.

Getting a high is not good, sorry but I think you should consider seeing a doc as you might have tipped over slightly into disordered eating.

dontcallmehon · 22/11/2012 21:51

I thought everyone got a slight buzz from losing weight. It's not necessarily a sign of disordered eating is it?

PetFox · 22/11/2012 21:59

OP I think you need to find some exercise you enjoy so that you can build muscle - which will make you appear slimmer, especially as you age - rather than trying to achieve what you want through restrictive eating alone. That will give you a buzz too, and a much healthier one, physically and mentally.
