To be ticked off with MIL?

Today I saw mil for the first time in 6 weeks and the first thing she said to me was not "hello" as you might expect but "we've been in the car for 2 hours and we couldn't stop for coffee". Not in a conversational type of way but in a it's all your fault you can't move for roadworks and flooding way. Then later on she realised she has forgotten fil's slippers - somehow DH's fault and so she decided to bang the mud out of fil's shoes in to the kitchen sink and all over the draining board. She then tutted that I hadn't cleaned up properly!!! I'm actually a bit anal about cleaning so this really wound me up!! Later on she said I had "cheated her out of her M&S vouchers" because she had voluntarily offered them to DH?? Finally, after lunch I had to stop her wiping DS's face with the cloth I use to wipe down the kitchen surfaces, Dettol and all. Again she tutted and told fil I was making a fuss and it would probably be better if they went home to have that coffee they had missed this morning ... 2 cups of coffee had been made during the morning. Sorry for the rant. I know this isn't interesting or relevant to anyone else but FFS!!

Hope they have gone. She sounds a treasure.. Open the wine.

MollyMurphy · 22/11/2012 18:45

Gee, she sounds like a treat OP.

ledkr · 22/11/2012 18:50

Sounds like a nice lady! Have you got her for Xmas dinner?
I'd serve her up well roasted Grin

I do have her here for Christmas, yes. She tends to busybody her way around the kitchen whilst saying "don't let me get in the way" whilst telling me that I should have peeled the potatoes and parboiled them the night before. One year she nearly slapped me as I had the wrong brandy to put in top of the pudding and set alight??

Euphemia - you win!! What an "interesting character" your mil sounds!

Ah, another MIL rant - feels so good!!

Seriously, what is wrong with these women?? Are they just difficult people generally, or is it jealousy that their darling son has replaced them with another woman? Confused Are we destined to become like this with our ds'?? Shock

She sounds seriously annoying. So did she leave in a strop then?

Wertrude · 22/11/2012 20:50

P.S. Ginandtonic MIL stories are ALWAYS interesting, no matter how trivial or petty Grin

MissCellania · 22/11/2012 21:01

Euphemias MIL sounds like she has dementia rather than an attitude problem. Pretty weird thing to say to your own son otherwise.

She did indeed! She's such a nightmare and always has been. I really hope I won't be - I'm going to write all the annoying things she does down so that I can remember not to them!

This is making me feel better. My mil is currently trying to see if dh will do 7 hours of driving on Xmas day so she can come for lunch (she doesn't want to stay).

So not all MILs are creepily attached to their sons then? Looks like there are two different breeds. Euphemia it baffles me that parents can have favourites. Does DH get upset about it? (probably a stupid question...)

Ginandtonic lets hope by then we can still look up MIL rants on MN as a reminder!

Same situation here euphemia. Also a mixture of health issues and her personality always make for an interesting time conversation wise (to my certain knowledge she can't remember my name, either of my dds or dsd ...)

CrapBag · 22/11/2012 21:21

Not trivial OP, I would have been thoroughly pissed off too. I also would not be entertainer her on Christmas day either.

BattlingFanjos · 22/11/2012 21:51

I can't wait for the day I become an interfering, busybody, crazy MIL!
Joking, of course! I'll never be a mil, I'll make sure of it mwahahahaha! Grin Wink

Good luck for christmas OP, she sounds delightful Grin
