To have left it this late to start my Christmas shopping?

So everybody I have spoken to is fully organised for Christmas. Presents bought, wrapped and parts of the dinner cooked then frozen for the big day.

I haven't started anything yet! Not even my Christmas cards.

Please tell me I'm not the only unprepared one?

The frozen dinner thing is odd.

BillieKentIsHeavenSent · 22/11/2012 15:14

It's not that late, is it? I haven't even started thinking about it yet, I have no idea what we're even doing this year.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 22/11/2012 16:26

I never start until dec. people might change their minds about what they want or get the gifts I've bought them if I start too early. Dd1 is likely to change her mind if I shop for her 2months in advance!

TempusFuckit · 22/11/2012 17:10

I'll be doing the frozen side dishes this year - but mainly because I'll have a three week old baby and don't trust DH to do the red cabbage justice Grin

All my Christmas shopping arrived this week - in a big Amazon box which took me two hours to shop for last week. Again, only done early as I didn't fancy tackling it with a toddler and newborn to deal with at the same time. Usually it's mid-December.

Oblomov · 22/11/2012 17:15

Nothing done so far. 1 present for each ds's. Nothing for dh yet. No cards written. Can't see the panic, to be honest.

CMOTDibbler · 22/11/2012 17:18

I haven't done anything yet. Well, thats a lie as I have thought about what I'll get my mum and dad, amd made some mini fruitcakes.

Usually I get most of my shopping done online, mostly from Amazon, so its no hassle. And it all gets wrapped Christmas eve in whatever charity paper we've bought that year

5hounds · 22/11/2012 17:20

We've done nothing, its going to be tight this year, partner lost his job, he starts a new one next week and I have a job interview tomorrow. Panicking about rent arrears and Christmas.

I bought some stocking bits yesterday. I haven't done anything else. It's only November.

Jins · 22/11/2012 17:36

I won't be starting for weeks yet Shock

The only vaguely christmassy shopping I've done is order some business christmas cards but they won't arrive for 10 days

TheCountessOlenska · 22/11/2012 17:46

I never start till December but I am slightly worried that I won't ever get my arse into gear this year as I am in slothful pregnant mode.

I hate Christmas shopping - I always worry I have got the wrong thing, find it hard to think of ideas etc etc. Wish I could just stuff some cash in envelopes and hand it out tbh lazy lazy cow

I love receiving presents though! Grin

thebody · 22/11/2012 17:48

Bollocks, havnt started yet though made the list last night.

If your friends are all shopped and wrapped I expect they don't have busy lives.

bondigidum · 22/11/2012 18:05

I attempted to do my first ever Christmas cake two days ago but epically failed.. It burnt to a crisp except the very middle part which was moist and lovely?! So I have that to attempt one more time tomorrow and if it doesn't work again i'm buying one.. i'm also attempting mince pies tomorrow and if we like them will make another batch to freeze for Christmas. Trying eggnog too.

I buy the food about two-three days before the big day.. although I must admit I have considered freezing it now just to cut out a job on the day itself but I cba.

I've bought everything else though. I shop online so i'd be concerned that it wouldn't turn up on time if I left it longer.

ChuffMuffin · 22/11/2012 18:22

I've done fuck all, and I'm spending Christmas in another country. We fly in 3 weeks time and I've got nothing. Next few weeks are gonna be fun Sad.

user12785 · 22/11/2012 18:24

I haven't started yet! I like doing it in December, I don't feel Christmassy until then. No panic.

Badvocsanta · 22/11/2012 18:53

Thebody...really?
I have 2 young dc, my dh works away, I do voluntary work (been out at meetings every night this week) and care for my mum too.
But you assume I dint have a busy life because I have finished my Xmas shopping?
Really?
I am simply very organised.
After all, how hard is it to order Xmas gifts online? How hard is it to do an Xmas grocery delivery order? How hard is it to spend an hour writing your cards? (That you ordered and were delivered the previous week?) how hard is it to spend 40 mins wrapping?
Not very IMO.
It's Christmas fgs, not the Normandy landings!

lljkk · 22/11/2012 19:51

I am very fussy about what to buy, plus I am starting to see things I want to buy advertised at extortionate prices (still available elsewhere at reasonable price). Still, i think now is the time to pull my finger out & get planning.

I may not do cards at all this year. Just not feeling inspired!!

I'm moving house in just under 2 weeks. I have done a bit of christmas shopping online (the boxes are stored at my mum's for the time being) and I've bought Christmas cards for my family. Everything else will be done once we've moved and settled. I'll buy and send cards first, then do the gift shopping all in one go. Then (non-perishable) food shopping, and I'll still have a full week to wrap gifts, decorate the house, and do my last-minute food shop.

On the other hand, my friend does all her Christmas shopping in the January sales, and wraps the gifts as soon as she gets them home. Right now, all she has to do is put up her decorations and shop for food - everything else is done. I can't do that, I love the hustle and bustle in the run-up to Christmas and having it all done and dusted in January would spoil it for me.

Badvocsanta · 22/11/2012 21:17

Maryz.
Yes I have a an apex as eve ocado del slot booked.
Gifts all wrapped and in loft. Bought everything in sales or with voucher codes.
Cards written - will post 1st weekend in dec.
It's not hard.

Badvocsanta · 22/11/2012 21:20

December is ridiculously busy for me this year...loads of church stuff, usual school stuff, family stuff.
So glad I dont have to add shopping and wrapping to all that!

pigletpower · 22/11/2012 21:33

My birthday is on Dec 17th and I don't really feel 'Christmassy' till I've had my birthday.I do put up decorations and tree on 1st December though!

I've thought a few times about Christmas, and I've bought 2 little craft sets from the 99p shop for part of my nieces presents. Blush

I have left it late enough to not think about where we'll have Christmas dinner so MIL has invited us around to their house - marvellous Smile

I will be starting to shop in December. I've even booked a day off work especially! Grin

TheCountessOlenska · 22/11/2012 21:44

Ah now see I don't have a ridiculously busy December planned so I have lots of time to sit on my arse and eat mince pies do my shopping Grin
