to be so annoyed over a Facebook page... (I think I already know I am!)

Yes, I know I can just click the little red cross at the top of the page but...

My timeline recently has been clogged up with people liking the page "curvy girls are much better than skinny girls!"

It really getting on my nerves.

I'm naturally slim, no hips and very flat chested so to see this really gets on my wick. No one is BETTER that someone because of their body shape!

Imagine the outrage if I was to start one "skinny girls are much better then curvy girls"..

I know I am being unreasonable and everyone has their own personal tastes etc, also possibly taking it slightly to heart as I've always been a bit self conscious of my boyish
figure but come on! Is there really any need for it?

I can see why your annoyed but things like that tend to be fighting back against the size 0 culture which is predominate in some areas of the media.

BadgersBottom · 22/11/2012 09:49

Of course there's no need for it. There is no need for 99% of the uber-junk that assaults us all day every day via FB and the like. Delete, ignore, move on - otherwise you'll end up crazy.

Gruffy · 22/11/2012 09:51

But surely no one should be saying that someone is BETTER then another because of their body shape.

Everyone comes in all different shapes and sizes..

Yanbu.

What I hate is referring to bigger girls as 'real'. So what are slim girls, aliens?

cheekybaubles · 22/11/2012 09:53

Us 'curvy' girls have all got a 'skinny' girl inside us, it's just that we've eaten ours Grin

Woozley · 22/11/2012 09:53

Fighting back against the size 8 and under normalcy of the fashion industry and media shouldn't be done by going to the other extreme and saying you aren't a 'real' woman or are inferior unless you have substantial tits and ass & a defined waist.

Gruffy · 22/11/2012 09:54

That is true BadgersBottom, I also say a page this morning "like if you know someone with braces"

My eyes are going to roll out of my head one day at the crap I see...

I can't delete though, I like a good old outraged tut Grin

I'm with Sirzy on this one. I can understand why you might find it annoying, but withh all the size 0 crap that fills the media, I think there has to be something pushing back the other way if we're going to find a balance.

Also, you call yourself slim, not skinny. Perhaps that page really means "curvy, slim, normal, realistic girls are better than unnaturally skinny airbrushed types" but it was too long for a page name?

cheesesarnie · 22/11/2012 10:01

I think we can't win either way. We will always be too big or too small.
I ignore it although get a little bit pissed off that it is ok to ask a smaller person if they eat enough but not ok to ask a bigger person if they eat too much.

Do what I do, head in the clouds and find someone nice to talk to instead Grin

WhatsTheBuzz · 22/11/2012 10:09

well, each to their own. Many, many people prefer 'skinny' women to 'curvy'. You only need look at most magazines/newspapers to know that. Just ignore.

WorraLiberty · 22/11/2012 10:13

It was in the news the other week that these pages are started to get as many 'likes' as quickly as possible.

Then once they have over 1000 likes, they're sold to companies for around £100...the companies change the name of the page and delete the photos. They then use the page to advertise their business and end up on top of over 1000 news feeds.

It's the same with all the other pages of sick looking children, abused animals, funny pictures etc...

Gruffy · 22/11/2012 10:19

Oh I didn't realise that Worra.

That will help greatly in ignoring it all!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 22/11/2012 10:23

I didn't realise it either til I read it in the news.

It's bloody clever really if you know people willing to pay you £100 a throw for starting wanky pages Grin

cheesesarnie · 22/11/2012 10:50

that's really interesting to know Worra!

FreakySnuckerCupidStunt · 22/11/2012 10:57

God yes, I hate pages like this. Larger women have had a shitty time due to body stigma but the way to change this it to challenge all body stigma, not shift the negativity to women who are slim.

picnicbasketcase · 22/11/2012 11:01

There's FB pages about practically every stupid thought anyone's ever had. 'I like waking myself up by farting', 'stepping on crunchy autumn leaves', 'licking frozen lamp posts', or whatever. I haven't checked to see if they're real but I bet they are. Take no notice.

WhatsTheBuzz · 22/11/2012 11:02

What I don't understand is that being overweight is surely as unhealthy as being underweight, yet 'big' women seem to be celebrated by the media for their 'body confidence' and for 'embracing their curves' whereas very thin women are 'having a breakdown' or something.

Pandemoniaa · 22/11/2012 11:10

I ignore most of this shyte on Facebook. As I do those umpteen spammy pictures which encourage you to like the page they come from. As Worra says, they are merely inducements to build up the number of 'likes' before the page reaches a target and can then reveal its true colours.

I have to say that while I'd be equally underwhelmed by the page you mention, OP, I'm generally more bothered by some of the quite breath-takingly racist stuff that Facebook seems to offer a comfortable home to.

cheekybaubles · 22/11/2012 20:31

I agree Pandemoniaa I am constantly explaining to people why these posts are racist and they usually don't even realise Hmm
I report on basis of inciting racial tension

FreyaFridays · 22/11/2012 21:12

Agree entirely, OP. I've always been "skinny" too, and find comments like "real women have curves" to be very insulting. I recently returned to Facebook after a year's absence, and purged my "Friends" list to the absolute bare minimum of people I actually talk to... and still I found that this rubbish appears on my news feed. One of my friends is particularly militant about spreading the "curvy vs skinny" message, which is gutting, as she's lovely when I see her in RL.

However, the racist and intensely patriotic crap did NOT appear over poppy day this year...
