To not understand why someone marks their place.

Ok so I'm being stupid rather than unreasonable but when someone types they're marking their place is it because there is some magic way to get back to that place without having to read the whole thread. Because I can find that magic way.

The mobile site has the colour coding.

And after a number of years I still refuse to switch over from Classic, so don't have a fancy bookmarking facility.

Well on my phone it is at the top of the page in the customise box. I'm on android and don't gave a special app or anything. Just the mobile version that comes up. What is at the top of your page?

To me, 'Threads I'm watching' is for stuff I want to refer back to, e.g. recipes, UCAS tips, make your own Baileys, etc. I 'mark' threads that I want to read perhaps when I get in from work and will probably comment on later but I don't want clogging up 'Threads I'm watching'. I once had 300 watched threads and could never find the ones I'd kept for interest! Never again. Can't bookmark as I'm a classicphile.

I don't really understand this classic business but I suppose you have limited facilities.

Whoops! I got completely the wrong idea I've only ever seen it on long and heated interesting topics so I thought it was just a way of saying " I want to be part of this thread incase it goes down in Mumsnet history" Like there's a hall of fame or something

Ok. So this "bookmarking" thing sounds like a gift from above. But I found the option, switched it on, and still can't see any " bookmark" button anywhere. Does it not work on an ipad!

Did you 'save' changes, rhienne? I'm afraid I don't know about ipads but it worked on my phone. It's great!

Ctrl+f name

Hover your cursor over the bottom right hand side of the last post, and a little box will come up saying 'bookmark' - click on that and it will save your place in the thread

What LeeCoakley said - I "Watch" threads I might want to pick up months later .... something about University Apllications or holiday ideas and the like... but I might 'mark my place' on a thread either because I want to read it all later beacue it's along one I haven't time for yet (so it will appear in my "Threads I'm On" and be easy to come back to without doing a search or having to remember what it was called) or because I've read that far, but don't necessarily have anything to add at that time, but want to read further comments. By adding a post, it is a different colour and easy to find where to pick up from next time.

Only trouble is, Threads I'm On only goes back 50, and as I spend half my waking hours on this site I'm a prolific poster, I sometimes still manage to lose things.

well I did it on the new strictly thread all it means is I found the new thread just saying hi and will be back later on to bitch talk about the programme, it doesnt really mean a lot tbh and i didnt know it annoyed people

Ahah. It does work on the ipad, just tap the message you want to mark and the button appears. There was me looking for something that was already there...
