to think it would be a good idea if large supermatkeys provided a creche to enable busy parents to do their grocery shopping?

I used to use the gym creche for my disabled baby at Fitness First gym. They were great, clean, trustworthy and cheap. A whole two hours of man ogling :)

The asda in watford used to do this. Don't know if they still do, it's been years since we were there.

MammaTJ · 21/11/2012 19:44

There used to be a privately run one in my nearest big shopping town. I used to love dropping DD off and going shopping and she loved going. It closed though.

MistressIggi · 21/11/2012 20:03

Asda near me have one. Expensive; but not as expensive as ds let loose in their toy aisle.
When I had ds1 most (council) gyms in the city had a creche - five years on and ds2, every single gym creche closed down.

SoleSource · 21/11/2012 21:07

Yes, mistress tne FitnessFirst creche closed too!

Is tne Asda a Supetcentre Mistress? What is tbe cost?

Lots of supermarkets still have a creche. Its called explore learning. The kids are looked after by a bunch of twenty somethings while you shop. Its just a pity they don't take pre schoolers and babies.

bondigidum · 21/11/2012 21:34

If its that difficult to take your kids to the supermarket then shop online.

toomuch2young · 21/11/2012 21:35

I was Safeway crèched 20 years ago!!
And they had the tiny trolleys with flags on to! Ahh them were the days!!
Wink

JollyJock · 21/11/2012 21:36

Norco used to have one. I remember being in it. And Asda.

Now I do shopping at a run when Ds is in a good mood. I write a list first too or it takes too long.

Our council runs a creche in the centre of town with a 3 hour maximum stay. Very useful for clothes shopping.

MistressIggi · 21/11/2012 21:40

Solesource it is a big asda yes, a smaller one in same city has no creche. Really it's a small softplay - can't quite remember price, I think 4.50?

Wonder how ikea does it, with only a charitable contribution too.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 21/11/2012 21:42

Why don't you people shop online? It's quicker, easier, cheaper. I avoid venturing with my dc's to food shops its a PITA! I expect if online shopping didn't exist there would be more creche facilities nowadays. Btw gym crèche is great- the gym wouldn't work online for me!

MistressIggi · 21/11/2012 22:18

Online shop takes me an hour, same as driving to local supermarket. When I want food I want it today. Don't like substitutions.
Now an online gym, that I would do...

nannynick · 21/11/2012 22:50

Not having ever used an Ikea creche but having been in Ikea stores, I wonder if part of why it does work for Ikea is that the one-way system of the shop prevents people from leaving their children and heading to other stores.

Creche at the gym I go to is 4.60 an hour... they have a soft play in the creche as well as drawing/sticking, soft toys etc.

A pay-as-you-go nursery a friend of mine runs has found that one of the issues is staffing... you don't know how busy you are going to be. So unless the number of children being cared for is quite low, it's expensive to staff as you could have staff sitting around doing nothing. That nursery is not attached to any supermarket, or even near one, so parents do book in advance. If it were at a supermarket, parents would just turn up wouldn't they?

I remember MFI used to have a massive ball pool in the middle of their store and our mum never let us go inside it, so me and my sister used to run around the shop playing hide and seek. Fun days.

SoleSource · 22/11/2012 11:23

Department stores, big furniture shops were great for pkaying in. after hours of clothes shopping we got bored
