so that I can avoid buying Christmas presents through them? inspired by the lady missing her SPorts Direct delivery, and the total absence of my Gap delivery, the cards they claim to have left or any response to my queries logged on their site

Sounds like the question should be which companies don't use Yodel!

I have a soft spot for Yodel. Couriers are always local people, driving their own cars, often after hours. Yodel doesn't fuss with recruiting or training, so they're a lifeline for many. My courier is lovely. She always leaves her mobile if I miss delivery and last time I called she was back at my door in a few minutes.

It is an inconvenience when delivery is messed up, but it's not like anyone is left out of pocket. It's probably cheaper to resend few deliveries than than to implement complicated and costly quality system.

Amazon don't use Yodel in my area. It's always either Royal Mail or Hermes (Not much better than Yodel, IMO).

Zalando do use Yodel. Also Boots as mentioned. I'm fairly certain M&S have used them too.

Yes, I have no problem with Amazon deliveries, I live near Stoke on Trent.

Amazon use DPD in my area, they are truly beyond shit. They've cocked up every single delivery I've ever had.

I think Very use Yodel - they do round here anyway.

I've never had a problem with Yodel, I won't touch any company that use DPD with a barge pole

My Yodel man is lovely. He came to redeliver a parcel the other day and apologised for not being able to leave it anywhere the previous day as it was raining and he didn't want it to get ruined!

However I realise I may be a lone voice !

Yes - Yodel use local folks because they used to be Home Delivery Network I think and they were much better then.

The quickest way to get a resolution with Yodel re: crap delivery is to tweet them.

I did this and got an immediate solution (parcel was shown as delivered on the online system but it wasn't. Turns out the guy had left it in the neighbour's garage but didn't tell me or neighbour.)

The tweeter replies at once and talks to the delivery guy to find out what the story is.

But reading their tweet-line is v funny - full of peed off customers! It makes me think being a Yodel tweeter must be one of the most dispiriting jobs going.

Never had problems with Yodel.

They are v cheap for the service they do. If you want shipping with FedEx or UPS or something you will have to pay significantly more shipping costs.

The reason loads of large retailers use them is that as a percentage not that many deliveries go wrong (I would guess), and they would lose a lot more customers if they put their shipping costs up (I would guess).

Dunelm mill use them.

I ordered a kettle and toaster from them and it was left in my garden, in full view of all my neighbours in the pissing down rain!

I agree that DPD are beyond shit. Citylink are also dreadful. They failed to collect something THREE days running last week, after I'd rebooked and called and everyone I'd spoken to said Oh yes, our fault, we'll be there tomorrow...bollocks they were.

Finally got told they had TRIED (also bollocks - it was on the doorstep waiting for them) and that they'd emailed, also total bollocks.
I got a refund through parcelmonkey and booked with arsehole parcelforce, who always turn up although they do cost a bit more.

the worst delivery company ever! littlewoods and ideal world use them. I'm sure that the requirement to work for them is to be as thick as shit and have no brain.

Dreams (bed company) use them. Lost a sale last year because Yodel delivered half a bed to us (late) and couldn't locate the other half in their system. Really unhelpful on phone, email etc, blaming us (???? Not sure how receipt of half a bed could be our fault??).
When we returned the half that we had they said they'd outsourced delivery to Yodel in our area but had had to set up an entire team to deal with and resolve non-delivery issues.

Last year Yodel left a TV my sister ordered in a HEDGE in her front garden. She doesn't know how long it was there but it was in easy view of the pavement and soaking wet as it was raining. They hadn't even bothered trying to get someone to sign for it so if it had been nicked she would be none the wiser.

All my Amazon stuff this year has not been Yodel.

Hedges and bins seem par for the course. It would be quite funny if real people weren't having to deal with this atrocious service and having their things stolen, soaked or taken to the tip.

What a bunch of clowns.

Lego use em. Took at day to get from holland to their warehouse, then a week to do the final 3 miles.

Hate hate hate Yodel!

Amazon use them if you go for super saver delivery. If you pay for first class, they use Royal Mail (who in my area aren't much better) but if you fork out for Prime membership (£49 a year) they use DPD usually, who are brilliant.

They are shit.

First time they tried to deliver I was out so they left a note (no problem)

They came to redeliver and luckily I was in the kitchen and saw the van pull up. The driver wrote the 'sorry you were out' note before he left the van! As he posted it through the letterbox I opened my front door and he said, I shit you not...'there was no one in last time so I didn't think I'd bother'.

He then laughed and fucked off!

They had to come and collect a faulty 32" TV from Amazon. The guy turned up and said, 'I don't think that will fit in my car and I'll have to keep it in my flat tonight and it'll make the hallway all cluttered'. I just closed the door on him. He got it the car when he had to.

Sports Direct also use them. I should be getting a delivery from them today via yodel.

Hope I get it then. I am bit worried now.

BobbiFleckmann · 22/11/2012 10:49

well today is my selected redelivery day. If, as I suspect, they're using a new local man who has repeatedly gone to the wrong address (think similar house names on the road but one's a cottage / one's a lodge / one's a barn etc), we'll still be bang out of luck. Had they been shagged to answer any of the emails I've sent through their site after the supposed first three delivery attempts, i could of course have set them straight... God knows what condition the package will be in if it ever arrives.

I buy from Amazon a lot and always use super saver delivery if i can and don't have problems. The only problems i have had have been when i've bought from a seller on amazon called the Entertainer and twice the stuff didnt turn up. Anyone else found that?

I imagine it's their working practices which make the service so poor. I have seen hundreds of their job ads, and what they pay works out at less than minimum wage.

Bobbi - seriously, tweet them. They will reply and will talk directly to the courier so they can tell him exactly where to go. (ha).

Most of my Amazon next day deliveries were from them, they never put a note through the door, didn't deliver on the right day and updated their online information saying that the parcels had been delivered when they hadn't. I gave up with them months ago and try and avoid other companies who use them too so i'll keep my eye on this!
