Especially in a shared office. Done regularly. Hmm

Try going out for lunch with my Mum. EVERY mouthful of food is followed by "mmm". Makes me want to scream!

LucyGoose · 21/11/2012 17:08

I can top you OP - my MIL has to smell every single thing she eats or anyone gives her.

To me, its rude to sniff at biscuits or a plate of food that someone has handed you, as if its gone off. She loves to do it and I go bananas!

MummyPig24 · 21/11/2012 17:10

Mil eats with her hands, she's like an animal. She is really lovely as well. She just picks up the food and flings it in the general direction of her mouth.

Dp has started chamming with his mouth open, truly vile to see and hear and I have told him so!

LucyGoose · 21/11/2012 17:10

Oh god, another one that makes me nuts is people who run their finger over the food wrapper to make sure they go every last crumb (of crisps or whatever) and then lick their finger! Are you starving and desperate for the last few crumbs?

squoosh · 21/11/2012 17:12

I have a friend who has to open a sandwich before she'll eat it. I'm not sure what she's expecting to find. And she fishes suspiciously through all dinners with her knife and fork looking for evil lurking in her pasta sauce.

ClippedPhoenix · 21/11/2012 17:51

sister used to the touch the food then sniff her fingers before eating it!

IslaValargeone · 21/11/2012 17:55

Speaking as a misphoniaist?
I think one should be allowed to kill offenders and it be covered under 'justifiable homicide' or some such thing.

tangofan · 21/11/2012 18:31

LucyGoose - your mil is mental. Also, agree about the licking of every last morcel - hence my hatred of the licking of the yoghurt lid. A woman at my work used to spend ages on that and I mean longer than she spent on the contents of the pot! Confused
Who are these people sniffing and inspecting their food?! Bonkers. I'd be truly offended if someone did that to something I'd made them.
I can hardly cope with my MIL speaking with her mouth full, the fact that it only happens at all because she cant shut the fuck up for 5 minutes only adds extra irritation.

LouP19 · 22/11/2012 14:34

And eating with your mouth open? Can I add that too? I have (another) friend who is lovely but I can't eat with her without wanting to throw up!

It always looks more effort to eat with your mouth open than closed, it just doesn't make sense to me. Again, it seems to be another 'oooh, look how much I'm enjoying my food and I want you all to know it' trait.

Licking the yoghurt lid is compulsory- it's a criminal waste not to! There are children starving in Africa you know!

On a related note, I have a colleague who says "excuse me" when she sneezes. I should probably say "bless you" but I don't because (a) I am an atheist and (b) I find it twee. However I think she finds me unforgivably rude for not excusing myself when I sneeze. Is it rude?

goralka · 22/11/2012 14:58

oh it's all so gross - I remember a colleague who would eat her sandwiches with her mouth open.
JessieMcjessie sneezing is fine -there's nothing worse than someone who farts in public - sometimes even lifting one cheek to do it, and then shouting 'excuse me' or 'pardon' at the top of their voices. Once I told someone it was fucking rude, and he told me I 'had a problem with bodily functions' - I mean -wtf??
essentially I was taught that it was best not to do these things in public, but if you had to, to make it as quiet as possible and not draw further attention to it.

AppleCatchers · 22/11/2012 15:06

I once worked with a girl who would watch everything I put in my mouth then start chewing on imaginary food Bonkers!

Baconandeggsarnie · 22/11/2012 15:09

Can someone tell me what 'smacking your lips' actually means?

goralka · 22/11/2012 15:42

like making the noise of your lips touching each other audible?
it can only be done with an open mouth and usually by 3 year olds.

Baconandeggsarnie · 22/11/2012 15:51

Ah, I geddit! Thanks goralka Grin
