remembers what anyone has said on another thread? I get it a lot, where someone says something like "I saw your thread the other day asking...." "....contradicting" etc. Am I the only one on here that spends hours everyday on here and still has no idea at all who has said what? I would have no idea if someone told me that they got on well with their DP and then 2 minutes later told me on another thread that they argue constantly, or that they had 3 kids and then somewhere mentioned their 8 children.

shoeprincess - my H is like that, his short term memory is shockingbut can remember loads of stuff from years ago. I am the other way round I think.

BreakfastwithMrsBarderbedian · 19/11/2012 14:15

I've never brought up a past thread or quote and life is far to short to go researching posters BUT I do have a pretty good memory for useless shit and if it's a poster that I either think a lot of or gets right on my tits on a regular basis then yes, i do remember stuff.

and names. I remember names. Frequently wish I didn't.

ChaoticismyLife · 19/11/2012 14:16

Funnily enough, just to contradict myself Blush, I do remember some posters on here so I must notice names, just not register them at the time, but obviously they stick in my mind somewhere.

McKayz · 19/11/2012 14:17

I remember some stuff. Like if someone says on Saturday they've been with their DP 8 months then this morning just 4 months.

But I don't remember what someone posted a few months ago like some people are able too.

FrankincenseWippery · 19/11/2012 14:23

I tend to remember most things that I've read on here that are specific to more prolific posters. For some reason or other I have a spectacular memory which serves me well.

I have no spreadsheet, I don't even know how to do a bloody spreadsheet, it could earn me a fortune otherwise WinkGrin

LaCiccolina · 19/11/2012 14:29

The other one is where people say they are changing names in order not to be recognised..... How much time do u spend on here where ur recognised? I don't remember people on here and actually kind of try not to as I'm really not interested. It's the opinion and conversation but have no intention of remembering u, hard enough to remember RL I'm not starting remembering anonymous people as well......

diddl · 19/11/2012 14:37

I don´t either as I barely notice names tbh.

I did also think that about the name changing.

But I think some posters do know each other in RL, so I can understand a NC in that situation.

I'm also in the can't remember brigade, it must go in one eye and out the other Grin

boomting · 19/11/2012 14:48

I very rarely read the posters names, tbh. It's much easier to remember who's said what on forums that allow more customisation e.g. avatars and signatures.

Justforlaughs · 19/11/2012 14:48

Will anyone admit to having a spreadsheet? Please?? I need a laugh today! Grin

LadyBeagle · 19/11/2012 14:52

Depends.
If the there's an odd thread and my trolldar zings then I sometimes advance search.
Then if they start another odd post I'll recognise the name.
I also remember the funny posters, and ones that I totally disagree with in everything they say, so I know to avoid like the plague.

ConfusedPixie · 19/11/2012 16:21

Yanbu! I remember a couple of posters for certain things. don't know iirc our not though! Like I think it's honeydragon who has kids who have managed to turn themselves multi coloured on more than one occasion? And think that it is mrsdevere who has a crazy neighbour with a 'shed' dwelling in the garden? But otherwise I don't really remember specifics!

NoraGainesborough · 19/11/2012 16:26

I usually remember stories. Occasionally remember posters names. But usually be use they stand out. For example a poster keeps posting the same stuff about her mil. It will jog my memory.

If a post seems 'a bit off' I may search the posters name.

But I would only bring other threads in to an active one if directly relevant.

EarnestDullard · 19/11/2012 16:28

I forget 99.5% of what I read here, including names. But sometimes a poster gets on your radar for some reason, or a comment sticks in your mind.

To be 'recogniseable' on here you have to be either really lovely, really horrible, very very prolific, have a sweary memorable name, or start a popular or controversial thread. Anyone else mostly disappears into the background.

And Grin at "in one eye and out the other" ClippedPhoenix Wink

ConfusedPixie · 19/11/2012 16:28

Oj, huge x-post! I actually do have an mn spreadsheet! Ha!

But it's actually just a list of mn names and those mnetters names on the harry potter site from when there were threads going on and everybody was adding everybody else. I didn't want to forget who was who Blush

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 19/11/2012 17:00

I remember some posters names and odd bits about them I have to consult the spreadsheet for the finer details.

RuleBritannia · 19/11/2012 17:10

I can remember a few names off the top of my head eg marriedinwhite and worral(can'tremembertherestofit) but can't remember what they've said. Someone said once that Worral was 'wise'.

I cannot remember where I've added a post either. My posts are usually from pedants' corner as you know.

I lose them when they change their names for a particular reason. Do they change them back eventually?

BegoniaBampot · 19/11/2012 17:15

Depends. Some posters are prolific, stand out and give out lots of detail. Ai felt as though I knew LadyofTheManor personally she gave out so much info and had her families photos on her profile. Other posters are also very open and don't name change, include photos etc.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 19/11/2012 17:17

I remember the names of people I've had a bit of a ding-dong with. But it's rare that I then don't get on with them at a later date.

There are some people whose names I recognise because they always (IMO) speak very good sense

Booboostoo · 19/11/2012 17:20

I don't remember anything on this forum. I have a terrible memory for names anyway but I do a bit better on fora with signatures/avatars because of the visual reminder.

The only stories I really remember, attached to the posters' names, are in bereavement as they are so heart wrenching I feel I owe it to the posters to remember them.

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 17:22

I passed my GCSE's by being in possession of a semi-photographic memory.

I can still remember where on the page of the textbook the diagram of flower parts is, for example.

Some people just have a good memory for stories/a feel for nuance even if it's a namechanger and a good memory for names. There is also advance search of course.

Having that kind of mind for detail helps me greatly in my job and RL too.

ClippedPhoenix · 19/11/2012 17:28

Thanks Ernest

actually I do a bit Grin

RandallPinkFloyd · 19/11/2012 17:36

Bit of both tbh.

I rarely remember specifics and don't intentionally look at usernames but you can't but become familiar with people after a while.

I just tend to just remember basics really, like kids, illnesses, jokes or general twattishness!

For example I was very Hmm about a thread started by Stratters about her husband as I know she's divorced. Turned out it wasn't her, I can't read Blush, but something like that I would notice.

Although as a PP said it's rare to find someone you disagree with on absolutely everything. It's more normal to be having a right barney with someone on one thread and getting support from them on another so unless it's important I don't see the point in trying to remember everything anyone ever said.
