To think this is the best kids' programme ever?

I have just discovered DipDap. Now, I thought that kids' programmes these days basically split into the ok (Show Me Show Me, Octonauts) and the crap (Mr Bloom and Baby Jake, I'm looking at you....). But DipDap is amazing! It's witty, clever, simple, beautifully animated and even quite touching. And the best thing was watching the boys (5 and 2) watching it. They were totally transfixed. And although the little one is a jolly chap, I don't think I've ever seen him actually helpless with laughter before. Why haven't I heard of this programme before?

Oh my god! We all love Dipdap in our house! I think it is the slapstick element that kids adore.

ObiWan · 19/11/2012 14:16

Oh, we love DipDap! I can't find any DVDs of it though, which is a pity.

Canimals is another funny one.

bedmonster · 19/11/2012 14:17

Is this that little 2 minute animation with 2 string/stick people? Mine LOVE that!

Justforlaughs · 19/11/2012 14:18

I'm going to have to google Dipdap now, never heard of it, but Baby Jake has to be the worst thing they've ever put on kids tv!

Anonymumous · 19/11/2012 14:20

It can't possibly be better than Gigglebiz... can it?!

redexpat · 19/11/2012 14:28

Does it have songs that are better than those in Small Potatoes?

Anonymumous · 19/11/2012 14:33

Small Potatoes? We call that Small Penises in our house. Blush

Princessgenie · 19/11/2012 15:48

My husband is addicted to small potatoes. Sings the theme time constantly!

Anonymumous · 19/11/2012 15:53

But they do look like penises, don't they? Especially that tall thin red one... Blush

FloatyFlo · 19/11/2012 15:54

I love the science song on small potatoes! And actually I quite like baby Jake Blush

I understand, I'll leave now.

waitingimpatiently · 19/11/2012 15:55

Small potatoes makes me feel physically ill...

JammySplodger · 19/11/2012 16:00

We're all Numtum fans here, that and Pokemon!

HipHopOpotomus · 19/11/2012 16:01

What better than "Yo Gabba Gabba"?

SoniaGluck · 19/11/2012 16:15

YABVVVU to diss Mr Bloom. Shock

But I haven't seen DipDap, so I really can't say if YABU about that.

redexpat · 19/11/2012 16:37

Small potatoes look like penises? Really? Confused

Nagoo · 19/11/2012 16:39

I thought we were going to discuss the genius that is Maid Marian and Her Merry Men....

VoiceofUnreason · 19/11/2012 17:16

I don't believe anything from the current crop will ever still be shown in 30-40 years' time or stir such memories in children as things like Bagpuss, Clangers, Camberwick Green etc

How children grow into rational adults without the voices of Oliver Postgate and Brian Cant narrating things. Sigh.

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/11/2012 17:18

We love dipdap here too Grin The only thing wrong with it is that it is too short!

gallifrey · 19/11/2012 17:37

Never seen it but will look out for it now. At the moment we all love woolly and tig

LapinDeBois · 19/11/2012 21:38

Just come back to this thread and it seems to have gone off on a bit of a tangent with potatoes and penises Confused. Glad there are some other DipDap fans out there. Never heard of Canimals, will have to investigate. Incidentally, the reason I hate Baby Jake and Mr Bloom quite so much is the amount of bloody repetition. You get about two minutes of new footage per episode. (Oh, and Mr Bloom's creepy Grin. Though the 'natural' footage of the baby in Baby Jake makes me a bit broody. But the mutant rabbit creature gives my husband actual nightmares.)

Oh, and if you're going to watch DipDap for the first time, I recommend the 'Tomatoes' episode. It made my two year old weep with laughter. It's available on iplayer at the mo.

My two love Milly Molly - it's the one thin they will both watch together (boy 5, girl 2). There is always a moral to the story ;-)

TwelveLeggedWalk · 19/03/2014 19:01

I have just discovered this, I can't believe it's been around for years, it's FAB!

inthename · 02/10/2014 16:30

my 12 yr old discovered dipdap by accident, its fantastic, deceptively simple and has him trying to work out what direction the story is going to go in plus giving him great ideas for animation.

bluejeansandbabies · 02/10/2014 16:32

God no, I think it is boring.
It's just a line. The kids and DH like it though.
