...to start a degree in dentistry at the age of 34?

I'm thinking of career changing into dentistry - I have good maths/science A levels and a 2:1 degree in Biology from a Russell Gp uni. I'm 34...is this too late?

I've seen lots of mums talk about the workload of a medical degree and medical training but none on dentistry. Is it compatible with a family life?

I'm pretty certain the postgraduate dentistry course at Aberdeen is 4 years long - perhaps they obtained special dispensation.

I don't think 34 is at all too old to embark on dentistry or medicine OP. I believe it used to be considered too old about 20 or 30 years ago but is fairly commonplace (and in the States, where its generally a postgraduate option only with students working for a few years inbetween to save up for it, the norm). We also now have age discrimination legislation which puts limitations on pointless age discrimination - obviously if someone was near retirment age, it would be a valid reason not to admit them to professional training for a vocational degree, but mid thirties I do not think hardly worth considering.

You will need to consider your finances and how to fund it. And this year of course you have missed the entry deadline of 15 October, so will have to wait nearly another full year to apply. You can already start preparing for the UKCat, which is a requirement for entry to most courses and therefore essential to gain a good mark in.

RuleBrittania, read FromEsme's post. Example, psychology, which is (compulsory) funded by the NHS; the intake is heavily weighted toward people in their 20'2 and 30's, and drops significantly for 40's with only one or two places for 50's, none for 60's. You could say the same for Law, possible to take the exams at any age, and some do, but the older you are the less likely to be hired.
