To wish films at the cinema had an interval?

Going to see Skyfall tomorrow with DH and really looking forward to it, but - the running time is 143 minutes. AIBU to think it would be nice to have an interval for 15-20 mins for drink/snack/comfort break?

There used to be intervals at the cinema (showing my age now!); they have them at the theatre, much more civilised IMHO. Granted many films are shorter than 143 minutes, so possibly an interval not strictly necessary, but some are not - and although I'm sure i will love it - if the reviews are right - it does seem a bit of a marathon. Of course it's worth it for Daniel Craig but with some other long films I can't help but think I might as well wait for them to come on to DVD and watch them at leisure.....

I would love intervals again. It's actually a major factor in why I rarely go to the cinema and wait to hire the DVD- the lack of an interval!

I pee hourly so I ALWAYS have to go mid film! Spesh as you always buy a drink in the cinema. I so need an interval!

It's also nice to have an opportunity to discuss the film, the plot, characters, what's happened so far, Daniel Craig, the villains, the locations etc - that is, if you go with somebody - it's part of the fun. and then you can see how it all unfolds and if your predictions were right etc.

to me, it just seems a bit sterile to sit there for two and a half hours with no food (unless you annoy everyone else with wrappers and munching etc), no drink (at the theatre you can take in a G & T or even a coffee would be nice) and no opportunity to use the 'facilities' without disturbing everyone and possibly missing something important.

I saw English Vinglish and it had an interval built in to the film - I assume because its from Indian Cinema.

I had no idea how long the interval would be so it was hard to maximise my time

Also in our cinema there was 26 minutes of ads and trailers before Skyfall - they could have had an interval there for popcorn replenishment.

I preferred going to the cinema in the days when there was an interval. I remember seeing Sound of music and Gone with the wind with intervals. If I'm watching TV I don't watch without a break, I'll pause it on Freeview.
Long films with no intervals are self indulgence by the director in my opinion.

Like Celstia said the ads before Skyfall at the Odeon cinema I went to were lengthy. I have the world's weakest bladder but managed to sit through this amazing film without a break. You won't want to leave the cinema once the actually film starts.

I went to see Pearl Harbour in a tiny cinema that gave us an interval. It was somewhat unexpected. We were in the middle of a very dramatic bomb sequence with everyone screaming and running for cover (the actors, not us), when suddenly the screen went blank and all the lights came up. Most people sat looking at each other in confusion, then staring at the back to see if it was projector issues while a handful (clearly regulars) got up and went out and returned a few minutes later with more snacks, at which point we twigged and headed off to the loos (all two of them!).
Most puzzling - and it majorly interrupted the flow of the film!

Ptang, I was wondering if you live near me, and I know I don't live near Viva? You have just described our local cinema, the Penistone Paramount.

All indian films have intervals, but they are normally 3 hours long. In cineworld the bollywood films have intervals.

I wish they did. It's great that cinemas now sell bar drinks, but no use to me because if I had a beer or 2 I'd definitely never make it through the film. I rarely do anyway. Can I go 2 hours at home? Probably, not always. When I go the pictures I've normally been for a meal or a quick drink first though and I can't hold that for 2 hours since child birth 5 years a go... Plus I also love the trailers so don't want to miss them going the bog.

Also, I always get nervous in case I need the toilet, I think about it too much and I can't concentrate on the film. Even when I don't actually need to go. Bring back intervals!

No way, it would ruin the film to be into the story and then have it interrupted for 20 minutes (any amount for that matter).

We have intermission and the ice cream lady too!

Our local cinema always has an interval. It is a little independent cinema in a small market town and I love it - free parking, inexpensive tickets and all the latest films. I always check there first for films we want to see.

Come live in the Netherlands, most cinemas have intervals went to see skyfall and it stopped right in the middle of scene. Hope you enjoy the movie it's fantastic.

My local cinema still has an intermission with ice-creams.
