Posting here for a quick answer as there is more traffic.

My mum is 46, she is slim, 5ft 9/10 and a size 10, she thinks she can't wear skinny jeans because of her age.

I think she can. I've seen girls less than half her age squeeze into them and look horrible. IMO it's not your age as long as they're plain denim, let's not get fancy now but it's how you look in general and they suit some people better than others.

Back me up here :)

My mum is 60 and wears them, in fact I bought them for her! Shock that anyone would think 46 is too old!

dinnersinthedawg · 12/11/2012 19:19

My mum is 65 this month and wears them - she has skinny legs and looks great in them, much better than me with my chunky thighs! She tends to wear longer tops with them and definitely doesn't look muttony.

LadyBeagle · 12/11/2012 20:09

Of course she can.
I'm in my 50's and am size 8 in skinnies, I live in them.

motherinferior · 12/11/2012 20:10

Your mum is three years younger than I am. I wear skinny jeans.

FranSanDisco · 12/11/2012 20:13

I was 47 on Friday and I wear them.

My mummy is 60 this year and looks far better in skinnies than I do (in my defence I'm 8 months pregnant), but she's always been very slim. Allowed!

MrsCampbellBlack · 12/11/2012 20:15

You can wear skinnies if you are short/tall/fat/thin/90/2 - its entirely up to you.

jen127 · 12/11/2012 20:16

I am 43 and think I am rocking them ! Smile

cardibach · 12/11/2012 20:41

I'm 48 and a size 16/18. I wear them, and get compliments. It's about attitude and style, not age or size.
Tell your mum to give over.

SoleSource · 12/11/2012 20:54

YES

SoleSource · 12/11/2012 20:55

Yanbu

BCBG · 12/11/2012 20:56

Yes! refuses to admit she is a teensy bit older than OP's mum

BCBG · 12/11/2012 20:57

Blush Sorry sorry sorry, meant Yes she can, not yes YABU. Jeez. Grin

CMOTDibbler · 12/11/2012 21:00

Course she can. And your mum isn't much older than me.

JudeFawley · 12/11/2012 21:01

She's slim and tall, so probably looks great in them.

46 is not exactly ancient.

OpheliaPayneAgain · 12/11/2012 21:05

I'm glaring at you because you are young enough to be my daughter Grin

I'm nearly 47 and I have just discovered skinny jeans - I cant take 'em off at the weekend, they are just the best thing invented ever! all I can say is : Marks & Spencer, I love you and your raspeberry skinnys!

hairytale · 12/11/2012 21:12

I'm 44 and a half Grin and I wear size 10 skinny jeans.

My DD is 10 months old :)

Teabagtights · 12/11/2012 21:23

I'm 47 if I was slim enough I'd wear them

TalkinPeace2 · 12/11/2012 22:06

age 47
currently wearing size 8 skinny jeans
I look a LOT better in them than flabby teens do

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 22:21

There is definitely no age limit to skinny jeans. One of my nan's has fab legs and could pull off black ones (I can't imagine her wearing blue denim) Alas have only got her into the idea of wearing normal trousers in the last 7 years.

OldMumsy · 12/11/2012 23:25

I'm 54 and I wear them. It's having the right attitude.

AdoraJingleBells · 13/11/2012 02:00

I'm 44 and the only reason I don't wear skinny jeans is because they just don't suit me because I'm a bit on the chunky side not because of age.

SomersetONeil · 13/11/2012 02:30

She absolutely should wear skinnies.

The alternative is wearing bootcuts and automatically ageing herself 10 years into the bargain*. Wink

I mean, they're only skinnies. They're not that out there or revolutionary a product. Women of all ages have been wearing slimline trousers since women were allowed to even wear trousers. It's bootcuts and flares that are the aberration, if you think about it.

*This is a joke - people should wear whatever's comfortable and/or flatters them and not give two hoots.
