To use a ready-to-mix cake pack for DS's birthday cake?

DS's birthday tomorrow. Have got a house to tidy, a front room to empty, presents to wrap, food shopping to do... And of course the cake (dry run picture on profile if you're curious!).

All of my health conditions have flared up. I actually feel like crap and want to hide beneath my duvet dosed up to the eyeballs on codine.

WIBU to use a ready mix box instead of making the cake from scratch? I know they're not fab. Are they really full of shit?

If your hands are numb, you don't want to faff about icing and decorating or getting your cake out of the oven, buy it

Bollocks I hadn't even thought about that aspect! God I'm so all over the place today. Fuckery.

Shop bought cake it is!

YANBU go to the supermarket and buy a Gruffalow cake

GwendolineMaryLacey · 10/11/2012 11:12

Yep, gruffalo cake in Sainsburys, saw it yesterday :)

heronsfly · 10/11/2012 11:15

Morrisons do a Gruffalo cake too Grin

Asda chocolate add-your-own photo cake is really nice, take the book with you and ask them to scan it in for the edible photo.

They shouldn't have any problems with it - I did it for DD when she wanted a Rainbow Magic Fairy cake last year.

I thought your dry run cake was FAB-U-LOUS. But give yourself a break/cut yourself some cake slack, a bought one, will be just fine.
We get so hung up about certain things, we forget to see the bigger picture. Don't worry.

Hoping that the feeling in my hands will have returned a bit more (can feel two fingers currently) by tomorrow. Party isn't till 1.30 so people can still do 11am services before coming for cake.

Last years was a an absolute disaster. Must Do Better This Year!

Whatnowffs · 10/11/2012 11:52

what about this

PurplePidjin · 10/11/2012 11:55

Ready-made cake + ready-made buttercream!

Faffy poncetastic birthday cakes are for childless doting aunties to worry about Wink

ilovetermtime · 10/11/2012 14:18

It's not being lazy OP, it's called looking after yourself and giving yourself a break :)

BertieBotts · 10/11/2012 14:29

That cake in Whatnow's link looks perfect :)
