I agree,i have tried loads and none felt comfy,and ive been to sling meets,babybjorns have been the best but even they hurt after an hour or so,i have bib boobs so maybe thats why.I have tried ring slings,the wrap ones,ergo,boba everything.

Okok I realise iabu as I have only tried one, a stretch wrap sling like a kari me.

It hurts after 5 mins of walking and i mean HURTS. I was relying on it as i have a little one to take to school and one in a buggy. I didnt want a double and still don't but its getting to the point when I dread putting it on because of the shoulder/back pain.

I find the Babybjorn was good a while back. Now DS is heavier, it is most comfortable when my DH is using it.

I loved my Connecta best for little babies, then I had a Beco Butterfly II as it has an integral harness to help klutzes like me get bigger babies on the back. DH fancies a Manduca this time round because it looks manly . I don't get on well with ties either. Buckles all the way for me.

I have got a Close carrier and it is lovely, but I can feel the difference if I have put it on a bit wrong (too high up usually) it has to be 'just so'. Only 2 knots to tie and you REALLY can't get those wrong, one front one back no tricky wrapping?

YABU - I think you have got the wrong one for you and your baby.

I hate seeing babies dangling from Baby Bjorns and they look really uncomfortable on your shoulders.

Whereas, I LOVE our Ergo. DS is 2.2yo and 13kg and we still use it. DH used it to take DS to the fireworks on Monday night and they were completely comfortable.

I had a baby bjorn with ds and a tomy with dd (both lent to me) and neither was comfortable. I have huge boobs and small shoulders. I'd try a wrap style sling next tume. It's just about trying different ones and finding the right one.

I carry him in the frog position and also the one where you make a pocket with the bit of material closet to you iykwim

I find if I don't get a perfect wrap then it pulls and gets painful quite quickly. You do learn how to get it to suit you but some people just much prefer buckles.

I found the moby wrap really comfortable, and DS2 loved being in there. The little bugger would not be put down for months, so it was wonderful to have my arms back. I think he liked that it held him snugly; he just wanted to be cuddled all the time.

My slings are very comfortable, thank you. So YABU to call me a fucking liar, a tad harsh.

YANBU to not like slings yourself.

I used a stretchy wrap when mine were tiny and now use a Girasol woven wrap and now thanks to this thread I'm very tempted to buy a Wompat.

YABU. I love my Moby wrap. DS is 6 months old and still very comfy to carry in it, even with my ruined hips & back.

Tried a Baby Bjorn & was in agony after half an hour. My wrap is very uncomfortable if it's not tied tightly enough too.

you need to try some and find one that is comfortable for you.

betweeen self and sister we have our own sling library - currently i am using a wrap sling (DS2 4mo)and a backpack (DD2 2yo). comfy for a full hour.

Baby Bjorns are awful, but Ergos are brilliant. Comfy and easy to put on, great if you're as badly co-ordinated as me..

Can you still get a Wilkinet sling? Sooooo comfortable, because all the weight it on your lower back (like a well-fitted rucksack), rather than on your shoulders (like the awful Baby Bjorn sling).

The Wilkinet looks cumbersome to put on, but it's not.

If you don't like long straps try something like a Kinderpack. They are brilliant. I have one for my DS2 who is 17 months. I have used it for him since birth. I also have one for my 3 year old!

Please do not base your experience of slings on the baby bjorn. They are crap. I always feel sorry for the parents I see wearing them and want to go up and tell
them about real slings but I don't.

Just because they are sold everywhere doesn't make them good.

If you want to try a different ones find a sling library close to you. Or go to the natural mamas forums. They have a great buy and sell forum for slings. And good advice too

Baby Bjorn must have a very good marketing department.

I definitely think you need to practice a bit more to get the right tie. I have had a few slings now and just a small difference in how tight or loose can make a huge impact in how comfortable it is to wear.

I used a close parents sling when ds2 was little as it eliminated all the tying. I just couldn't tie a wrap sling properly if I wasn't in front of a mirror. Probably could have if I'd had lots of time to practice!

I now use a Manduca and love it. I can carry ds2 who is now 7 months out for a day at Legoland. He does prefer to nap in the buggy so I usually carry him around when he is awake.

Can I hijack this thread to ask a sling question. I carry DS3 (aged 21m) in an ergo and I find it very uncomfortable. I'm short, chubby and hypermobile if that makes a difference. Should I just accept it's going to hurt or try another sling? The only sling meet near me meets at school run time. I can't give up and use a buggy as DS2 is a wheelchair user.

I suffer with a lot of back and neck problems due to an accident years ago. I had a Bjorn with my daughter and after 10 minutes of use the pain was unbearable.

However I had a Moby for DS and they are amazing. It takes a bit of practise to do them up at first but very quickly you'll be able to do it in your sleep. I was able to carry DS for hours with no discomfort at all. There are lots of clips on YouTube showing you how to use them. I can't recommend them enough.

Eliejjtiny - try a Kinderpack. You can get them in infant, standard, toddler and preschool size. A standard or a toddler size would be good as they have a higher back than the ergo so are more comfortable to carry in.

im amazed by all the people carrying toddlers! ds was nearly 14kg and over 3ft tall at 2.4years. the very idea of carrying him in a sling or on my back gives me cramp!......
but he is a little giant bless him!

Can I also ask a silly question of the Ergo devotees.

I have one tucked away. If I used it for DS2 who is now 21 mths old would I best to carry him on front or back?

And if carrying him on the back is best, how on earth do you get child in the sling and on your back when you are alone with them, ie with no adult present to help you?

YANBU I bought/borrowed 5 different types of sling and not ONE of them did I get on with.

I think I have a different shaped body and baby to everyone else, or something.
