how unreasonable is it to not go to work because the dog is ill?

He is old and knackered and wobbly and generally off colour.

I have to go to work soon.

But I don't want to leave him.

I will but I don't want to.

And what happens if/when he does pop off? How the bloody hell do I carry on?

I think if your DH is going to be home and you don't think the dog is ill enough to go to the vets then you should go to work. If you don't go in today then your work may be less sympathetic if you need further time off for vets appointments etc. If your DH wasn't going to be at home I might say different but if your dog isn't going to be alone or at least not for long then at least he has someone to look after him
