Bathrooms? That's it really. Moving into a new house and they've put carpet in the bathrooms. Can't really complain as the did the whole house as a freebie. But I can't imagine why they would not stick a bit of vinyl down. AIBU?

Aaah, if you have bathroom carpet you need The Rug Of Piss

vjg13 · 08/11/2012 10:33

YANBU, bathrooms need mopping!

WileyRoadRunner · 08/11/2012 10:36

Ooops we have carpet in our bathroom and it is perfectly clean.

But we all pee IN the toilet. Confused

lisianthus · 08/11/2012 12:08

YANBU and yuck. Pull it up! You'll get mildew from all the damp. Bleurgh.

expatinscotland · 08/11/2012 12:09

Yuck! Pull it up.

ShhBoom · 08/11/2012 12:13

Urgh this is my biggest pet hate having carpet in the bathroom. It goes all mouldy & horrid, my parents used to have it & I wouldn't walk barefoot on it!
I'm just about to get the lounge cream carpet replaced with laminate type stuff, I can't wait!

hiddenhome · 08/11/2012 12:14

I once had a carpet in the bathroom (not my choice) and there were a couple of large spiders that used to live underneath the back of the toilet and scuttle under the carpet if you disturbed them. I got quite attached to them and felt guilty when I got rid of the carpet.

Carpet in the bathroom and kitchen is unreasonable though. Pretty yucky and a total disaster if you spill anything Confused

Narked · 08/11/2012 12:26

Carpets in the bathroom are Envy [boak]

Why would you carpet somewhere that gets steamed up on a daily basis, water (hopefully only water) splashed on it and a light film of faecal matter on it from people flushing the loo with the lid up.

Scholes34 · 08/11/2012 12:34

I'm a big fan of cork tiles in the bathroom - sealed with varnish. Lovely and warm underfoot, if a little old fashioned. Very easy to put down too.

yani · 08/11/2012 12:48

Another cork-tiled bathroom floor here.
It was easy to lay, but you do need to get all the tiles out of packet and allow to lie flat somewhere for a few days.
It's very easy to clean, but in my bathroom it's bloody freezing.

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 08/11/2012 13:00

I have a carpet in the kitchen and 3 kids aged 1, 4 & 7.

We've only been in 6 months and we're doing an extension next year so no point in changing it now, but I cannot wait to rip the filthy thing up!! It must be about 20% ground-in weetabix by now.

Bathrooms must be worse though. I cannot imagine the state mine would be in with my boys who can't seem to hit the target!

holidaysarenice · 09/11/2012 03:14

Wait til the first day your feeling bad....you will appreciate the bathroom carpet!!

Loveweekends10 · 09/11/2012 04:38

Ugh I hate carpets. We have laminate floor all through downstairs and tiled floor in bathrooms. Why would anyone put a carpet in their kitchen? Is it a 1980s thing?

Softlysoftly · 09/11/2012 05:03

YABU I hate Lino with a passion! And tiled bathrooms are so cold. Carpet here but we only flush with the lid down and the wee goes in the toilet!

Why are all your bathrooms covered in wee!? Confused

Kitchen carpet is wrong.

FairPhyllis · 09/11/2012 05:53

Carpet in bathrooms is fine. Why do you all have people peeing on the floor?

Fairylea · 09/11/2012 06:03

I wouldn't have carpet in the bathroom or kitchen due to the amount of water and dampness being splashed about ... its bound to get moudly.

But I don't understand why people seem to hate carpet in other living areas so much... especially with small children I always think carpet is much softer for falls and knocks!

rogersmellyonthetelly · 09/11/2012 14:17

I have an 8yo son whose aim in the middle of the night is less than perfect. Hence the occasional dribble. It only takes a short while for the carpet to smell like an old mans pants, not what I had in mind.

ioness · 09/11/2012 14:26

I only have carpet in the lounge and one bedroom. Once the bedroom one wears out, I'll replace it with laminate. The reason being, we carpeted the whole house 5 years ago with a good quality wool carpet. Within five years, it was ruined. We are just about finishing paying off the loan for it now yet most of the carpet is gone. I think if you have dc, the wear and tear is just too great.

We have rugs on top which are just as cosy and it's a lot easier to clean.
