Heating - AIBU?

I'm lucky to have Gas Central Heating; i keep it on all night because i wake up if the air temperature gets cold. Also start to get achy joints if it's cold. Plus it's hard to want to get out of bed in the morning if the house takes a long time to heat up.

Problem is: i need to save money - i'm skint.

My Dad says to switch off the heating at night. He had ''ice on the inside of the windows when i was a nipper, & i was alright...'' !!!

I keep the heating at about 21c - optimum temp as recommended by drs for rooms you live in at night.
I have a digital thing which only switches the boiler on if the temperature drops below the 'set' temperature of 21c, therefore it saves money as the boiler isn't constantly on.
I was in credit by approx £50 on the Gas btw, which i managed to get back from British Gas. So i do save money.

So AIBU to have the heating on all night, or am i a money-wasting wuss??

If your cold, have the heating on. I have ours on a thermostat to keep the house at a constant 18.5 degrees 24 hours a day.

My heating is set to 20 and gets turned down to 18 when we go to bed at around midnight. My husband gets up at 6 and turns it back to 20.

But my disabled mother lives with us and as she is in a wheelchair and doesn't move around she doesn't generate much in the way of body heat. She also has an electric convector heater in her room which she has on for around 12 hours a day.

Even in the summer my gas and electric works out at £180 per month and god only knows what our winter bills will be.

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but can't you put it on a timer?

I would be uncomfortably warm with the heating set to 21 degrees all the time, especially at night!

I wouldn't like 'ice on the inside of the windows' (my parents talk about that too!) but don't like it too warm and stuffy either.

I thought about 17 degrees was considered the 'healthiest' sleeping temperature, though can't remember where I read that!

I left my heating on all night once, but after waking in the morning with my mouth dried out completely and couldn't feel it as was numb, I thought was dead., never did that again. DH was absolutely fine. I was the one who snored apparently

I feel the cold but don't have the heating on higher than 16 at night and 20 in the day. The best thing I've found for keeping warm in bed is a long sleeved nightie, thick socks, a hot water bottle under my thighs or knees (rather than my feet) and leg warmers! I used to like my electric underblanket, which could be kept on luke warm all night, but it interfered with the way my memory foam mattress moved so I don't use it any more. I would definitely say the leg warmers and hot water bottle under my legs has made the greatest difference though.
