to be pissed off with the Twilight woman...

...because she's nicked loads of good baby names.

I already have an Edward. I really really want a Bella, Alice or Jasper (I am pg with dc2 by the way!). But the Twilight comments were bad enough first time around, I can't bear the thought of them this time if I have TWO Twilight names! Why couldn't the stupid woman call her vampires Barry, Dennis and Barbara?!

It could be worse. DB and I have the same names as long running brother and sister characters in Eastenders. Hmm

Always had comments about it. We were born before EE started, that's my only defense.

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 09/11/2012 06:23

takemyeyes is it sonya and robbie? Cant think of anyother brother and sister in enders.

McKayz · 09/11/2012 06:29

DD has the same name as a Twilight character and only one person has asked about it. Annoyingly he now calls her the Twilight baby.

TakeMyEyesButNotTheGoat · 09/11/2012 06:36

No its not thankfully. I really don't like the name Sonja.

MumofWombat · 09/11/2012 07:21

I have the most gorgeous Xander you'll ever have seen! (Think I put a photo on my profile...). We'll find out next week if we are having a girl or boy. Doesn't help that we also really like the name Willow.....

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 09/11/2012 07:38

I know! I really wanted the name Isabella for DC2 had he been a she. MIL first comments? "Oh so you're a fan of Twilight then? ho ho ho!" Hmm no I'm bloody not actually. Never read the books or watched the movie so was completely unaware there is an Isabella in Twilight. Anyway the name wasn't invented by the writer of those books ffs.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still have used the Isabella (I love it and it was my gran's real mother's name- she'd have been thrilled!) but I also know I'd have had to put up oh so unfunny comments from MIL for the rest of her life. til I killed the silly old cow and buried her under the patio

Tanith · 09/11/2012 07:47

Can you use an alternative version of the name?
I'm so surprised that Alison, for example, is so rarely used now - used to be the other way around with Alice rarely heard.

Tanith · 09/11/2012 07:50

Hermione was also a main character in "A Little Princess".

CarolynKnappShappey · 09/11/2012 07:53

I think you could safely use Alice - it's not like you'd set your heart on Renesmee Grin.

WineGoggles · 09/11/2012 08:04

Does it really matter if some people jump to the conclusion that you named your children after characters in a TV series? If anyone says that and you feel the need to justify it just say you already had those names in mind long before they became "famous" in the teen crap that's Twighlight. Sod them. They aren't even weird Hollywood names or anything.

Sneepy · 09/11/2012 09:50

There is no Hermione in A Little Princess--it's Ermengarde.

StElmo · 09/11/2012 10:55

My daughter is called Bella and when people learn this, I'm often asked if I'm a twilight fan, I hadn't even heard of if until a couple of years ago! Call your baby whatever you want.

weeblueberry · 09/11/2012 11:03

We really love Esme and Jasper as names but there's no way they're getting used just to find out in 5 years every bloomin kid at nursery has that on their hook.

KenLeeeeeee · 09/11/2012 11:05

Worra Hermione was the daughter of Menelaus and Helen of Troy on Greek mythology and she was the wife in Shakespeare's A Winter's Tale, J.K.Rowling didn't invent the name.

This! I loved it and begged DH to consider it for DC4 had he been a girl.

I think Edward and Jacob are still ok as non-Twilighty names. Bella has been completely taken over though, sadly.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 09/11/2012 11:05

I know a pair of twins with twilight names. (Two of the three main characters). If you like them, just go for it.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 09/11/2012 11:07

Like CarolynKnappShappey says, it's not like Renessme! They are all perfectly normal names. The twilight fad will pass soon enough.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 09/11/2012 11:11

IMO Renesmee (just the name, not the character) was the moment the Twilight books really jumped the shark! Grin

Zalen · 09/11/2012 11:16

So I shouldn't admit to having already bought my tickets for the complete Twilight Saga on 15th Nov and Breaking Dawn Part 2 at 00:01 on 16th Nov then? Sad

weeblueberry · 09/11/2012 11:17

Zalen Oh I have too! I really do like the Twilight stuff. Its just that she's stolen some really nice names Smile

Zalen, I would be going if I didn't have a 4 month old Rosalie. Grin it was actually DH who picked Rosalie from a baby name book having no idea about the twilight books or the names in them.

sweetkitty · 09/11/2012 14:03

I thought of you McKayz when someone mentioned Rosalie

I did get a lot of twilight comments when DS Jacob was born a few years back.

McKayz · 09/11/2012 14:44

I thought we'd get a lot more comments than we have done, it is only DH's idiot of a friend who insists on bringing it up all the time.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/11/2012 14:53

DD was going to be Rosalie but the two reactions of "erm what?" amd "oh like in Twilight?" put me off. Bastards.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 09/11/2012 14:58

Someone I know is such a massive fan of Twilight that she named her son the surname of the main characters.
