To despise the elimination of elves..

2 of my friends tell their kids they buy the toys, give them to Santa and he delivers them on Christmas Eve if they've been good. Their theory is they don't want Santa to get the credit for the things they worked hard to pay for and put thought into...

IHere the Elves make toys all year long, Santa delivers them and mummy and daddy buy you a little present too. Job done. what do you reckon are times changing?

FC brings everything here except one pressie from dh and I and the various things from other relatives. We do, however, get invoiced for whatever he brings. Elves just help deliver and make all the wooden toys and plastic tat.

Ds's list always starts with the words "Dear FC. Please can I have all, some or none of the following..."

If you've been naughty, he just brings coal. When ds was about 4 I found him counting the coal things in the gas fire. When I asked what he was doing, he said "well, if there's more in the morning, I'll know I've been naughty". I did suggest a bigger clue would be NO presents!!! :). He still does it every year though :)

Santa brings the presents and sends a bill. Thats what I told my now 24 year old, it seemed make sense to him. Grin

ToriaPumpkin · 07/11/2012 21:47

We were told that the elves make the presents (and check if you've been naughty or nice) and mum and dad are invoiced for them!

rogersmellyonthetelly · 07/11/2012 22:35

Elves pick up the presents from toys. R us and wrap them ready for
Santa to deliver.

Just reminded me of the time my mum told me to include the Argos reference numbers on my letter to Father Christmas Grin

Santa brings all the presents here, always has done for generations!

It just means you get all their thanks and gratitude in one big lovely heap once they get a little bit older and realise what you did for them.

One of my daughters started to doubt Santa's existence when she discovered a bar code one Christmas. I was shocked that she could even think such a thing. Surely everyone knows that the elves move with the times and have bar codes now to keep track of where things are going?

She's now twenty-three and thankfully has overcome her doubts!

JellicleCat · 07/11/2012 22:46

DD found her letter to Santa to which I had added the Argos numbers.

(Disclaimer I am not IWish's Mum!)

DD also wanted to know why Santa shopped at Tesco. Blush

JollyJack · 07/11/2012 22:46

Our Santa never had elves. He bought or made all the presents himself.

lovebunny · 07/11/2012 22:48

thought this was a thread about offensive elf-poo.

not a fan of elves, myself. my father christmas doesn't bother with them. he and mrs christmas work things out themselves.

Meandmycats · 08/11/2012 07:45

I have never, ever understand why lots of parents tell their children they have bought all the presents, but then send them to Santa to deliver. I just don't get what the point of doing that would be!

When I was little I was always told that parents had to send money to Santa for the presents. Then Santa would budget accordingly. I therefore understood the year my friend got a pack of felt tip pens and nothing else why that happened when I got so much more.

I also don't really get why people tell children that all presents - from grandparents, aunts, uncles etc - come from Santa. I personally think that extended family members should be able to take credit for their gifts.

In my house most things (from my parents) came from Santa, but there would always be a few bits of clothing and a couple of books that were from my parents.

Fairylea · 08/11/2012 07:50

We have presents from Santa and presents from us.

I know of one family where they get everyone to put their present to the children is from Santa ! That seems reallyodd to me.. it's nice for children and relatives to know where presents came from !

whois · 08/11/2012 07:54

OP you've got it wrong anyway.

Sant brings stockings, and stockings only.

Mummy and daddy and family and friends bring the gifts under the tree.

Honestly, how are you all getting this so wrong??? ;-)

IsabelleRinging · 08/11/2012 07:59

Oh, I just can't be doing with people wanting to get the all the credit for buying their kids stuff! Do you not think when they are older they will realize it was you anyway and then you will get your credit?

Mandy2003 · 08/11/2012 10:39

Santa provides books, cds, dvds, clothes and chocolates for the stocking here as well. Mother buys the big gifts that appear under the tree and are demolished within 20 minutes of getting up. Grandpa turns up with more gifts later which have to be opened after lunch.
