Lightrain, do you dismiss what the IET says, and what MK says also?

YANBU - every parent should know this!

YANBU - I'm not surprised many parents don't know, but was appalled to be told to buy some by the HV running a first aid session earlier this year (and amused when three women told her why that was a bad idea), and annoyed that shops can still sell 'childproofing kits' which are essentially socket covers and a few other widgets.

Obviously in a country without earth pins in their sockets it's different.

Just a story about my own DD1. When she was 3 I left her in the living room while I was on the phone and I heard a dull thud from the other room. I finished my conversation and went to see what she was doing. She had used a knife to prise a plug out of the socket, fortunately a wooden handled knife, but she had blown two holes in the blade and every fuse in the fusebox. All I can think of was that she had seen someone use something to prise a plug socket cover out at some point.

Justforlaughs - That is a very good example of the unintended consequences of using them, thanks for sharing!

Does anyone have any good ideas on how we can help to raise awareness?
