To consider taking my engagement ring back after 5 years

okay, it's not what you think! I haven't suddenly decided I don't like it! I noticed today that the band has split completely. It's not that noticeable at the moment, it's at the back, but can't help feeling this shouldn't have happened?

I'm no expert but the ring is platinum & wasn't cheap. I take it off at night & in shower etc.

My super organised OH thinks he still has the reciept. I'm tempted to take it back to see what they have to say about it. would that be unreasonable?

I'm a jeweller (as opposed to simply working in a jeweller's shop) and I can assure you that platinum does not just split after 5 years due to wear and tear (and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise really does not know their precious metals). You say the ring has been resized; without seeing the ring, my first guess would be that they did a shoddy job on resizing and likely used a cheap inferior alloy for rejoining; in which case I'd be wary of any repair they've done and don't be surprised if the repair also splits in a year or two.
