AIBU not to want to be called hun, love, darling, babe by strangers?

It really annoys me. Last night I paid the cab driver and he said Thanks Darling. It is just one example but it keeps happening to me all the time. Sales assistants finishing their sentences with hun, love or babe. Strange people I meet on the street while waiting for the bus... I could go on and on but I am too angry. What to say in such situations or AIBU?

I used to work in tv with a load of luvvies so everyone was sweetheart or darling. I live in Newcastle where pet is the usual - affectionate - term of address. I like it. :)

You seem like a very angry person, have a Biscuit love.

autumnfrost · 06/11/2012 16:51

some of you seem you be very easily annoyed

MurderOfGoths · 06/11/2012 16:55

I quite like it,it's a casual, friendly way of talking to someone. Much warmer than ma'am, miss or madam.

Can understand why some people don't like it, but there's no need to be rude back to someone who is trying to be friendly!

ScatterChasse · 06/11/2012 17:09

It depends who's saying it. I don't like it if it's in a whingey way "Got any change, pet?" and for some reason I really dislike "pal", but generally it's just friendly isn't it?

But my friends and I all 'darling' each other, so I'm quite used to it!

Although one did tell me off for ruining his reputation by saying "Oh, he's a sweetheart" when somebody said they thought he looked a bit scary. Grin

It could be worse, in the Black Country you get called cock - made me giggle the first time it happened to me after moving here

pigletmania · 06/11/2012 17:18

I don't mind at all. I also don't mind being called pet, duck luvvie by eldrely folk I sometimes encounter. There are more important things in the world to get riled about
