RatsInTheBelfry · 05/11/2012 19:01

I made some poor bloke (who had already phoned me three times that week) listen to an entire episode of ICarly once .... i am hardcore!

OwedToAutumn · 05/11/2012 19:06

Someone I used to know used to say "No use talkin' to me, luv, we're caaahn-sil!" in her best SE London accent, when she was called by window replacement people.

FrenchRuby · 05/11/2012 19:15

I had the most bizzare conversation with a microsoft windows scammer the other day. I told him that everyone knew it was a scam (I normally play along and then tell them I have a mac at the end but it was the 4th call that day!) and he should just give it up.
Him 'Really? Everyone?'
Me 'Yup, no point in it really, you should just stop it'
Him 'But scamming is my life, it's like my god.'
me '............'
Then he hung up. Hands down weirdest thing I've ever heard from one of those calls.

I like to pick up the phone as if they've just told me I've won the lottery.

EasilyBored · 05/11/2012 19:28

I just do a polite and cheerful 'no thanks, bye!' and put the phone down. I can't bring myself to be rude, as really, they're only trying to do a job that I would literall have to be facing homelessness to contemplate. Call centre work is hellish, they don't deserve to be treated rudely.

One I had after I picked up the phone and realised who they were I then said "please hold your call is important to us" I then burst into my own version of 'Club Tropicana' they were still there so I said "Your call is in a queue please continue to hold, your call is important to us" My next song was 'An Eternal Flame'
They hung up. I don't think my singing is that bad.
No one calls us anymore

PosieParker · 05/11/2012 19:39

Next time I might try and speak as if they are Samaritans.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 05/11/2012 19:44

I agree with Mrsdv that to work in a call centre is my idea of the worst job in the world. It must be terribly stressful. So I don't shout at the poor beggars (I never answer the landphone, have turned the ringer off).

But that Micrososft scam. It has being going for so long now that most compos people will be aware of it. But still they do it so it must be lucrative. So I would assume that most of the people they sign up are people who are unaware, elderly and vulnerable people who can least cope with being scammed like this. Bastards.

The one that's annoying me atm is Barclays. If my dh goes into the branch down the road to put money in his account they phone the same day at around 8pm to ask him if the service was ok in the branch, EVERY SINGLE TIME. He goes in around 3-4 times a week. Every time I tell them that my kids are in bed and not phone but they still do. The service is good down the road, it's the phone calls that are making me not want to use Barclays.

dontquotem3 · 05/11/2012 21:32

Had a ms windows scammer called "victor" call tonight. With an exasperated sigh I muttered go away victor and hung. Flipping plums, they're getting on my frigging nerves. They only just called last week!

I say in an icy polite "don't mess with me" voice: "This is an MI5 secure line. We have traced this call. How did you get this number?".

They can't get off the phone fast enough.

Shinyshoes1 · 05/11/2012 21:50

oh I see Wink

I think i'll have a google myself. I don't know if DP has ever had a call like that. I know I haven't
