WIBU to take my 23mo to the Walk in centre?

My DD has what seems to be a cold for nearly 3 weeks. Started with a runny nose, progressed to coughing about a week ago and has just gotten a temp today, is cranky and wont drink.

Called the doc but of course there are no appointments and I have to ring at 8am every day until I can get one.

WIBU just to bundle her into the car and take her to the walk in?

Of course it wouldn't be unreasonable, if they won't drink they could quickly get dehydrated. Does the temp come down with calpol?

Gave her some calpol (which she informed me tastes like socks and jam) and shes perked up slightly. Temp reduced a bit but have also changed her into cotton PJs so not sure what caused the reduction.

Breathing is a bit fast and shallow, but no wheezing ir anything and she seems cheerful enough. Just short tempered and subdued.

Worried that Im being over cautious!

Yes, ducks, but you have to call at 8am to get one. Usually end up hold for an hour before getting through to anyone.

I took my 20 month old in last week to an emergency appt. after he had had the cold for 10 days (also had V&D halfway through but unrelated).

Doc was happy to look him over and there was nothing wrong, but whooping cough has been going around so it was to be safe rather than sorry.

If I needed an emergency appt for dd (asthma) I used the word 'baby' instead of 'toddler', worked every time thankfully as always had to be admitted to hospital with colds and receptionist wouldn't realise that.

I'd have her checked out. My dd has asthma and her breathing is fast and shallow when she has a chest infection but she doesn't wheeze.

Thanks, mmmerangue, whooping cough was one of my worries. Last few times Ive been to our walk in the receptionist gets really shitty with you unless youre bleeding from at least 3 orifices. Kinda made me reluctant to go.

Okay, chucking her in the car now and hoping I'll find my way there. Only passed my test on Friday and still trying to find my way around the city!
