AIBU?

To think if you are going to be photographed without makeup for charidee its a bit ahem "disingenuous" to then get your picture airbrushed to absolute fuckery.

See here.

Great idea but do they really expect us to believe that all these women have the exact same paper white complexion?

Look at Louise Redknapp. She has got the teeniest tiniest palest dark white freckles. Except you don't get dark white freckles. Freckles are brown.

Confused

I dunno, maureen, I do believe there exist women who would agree to get papped without makeup and who don't look like that. They'd just get bitchier comments under the Guardian article and more rants on here.

I'll do it if I can have the team of lighting professionals to follow me around all day with 2,000W, a shiny white umbrella thing and a very long extension lead.

I'm not so sure. I think the last one has to be wearing mascara, and they've all got Vaseline or something on their lips. But I can see lines and a bit of shine as well. Suspect maybe the last two were a bit more demanding about what "bare-faced" meant?

I think if my photo was going to be published anywhere, I'd prefer it to be reasonably flattering whether or not I was wearing makeup!

The pictures are lovely, that's not the point. The problem is with the premise of the whole thing - look how wonderful these women are to actually show their actual factual awful horrible woman-faces in public!! They should have them covered up with trowel-fulls of cosmetics but they don't! Wow! And now "normal" women are going to do the same! How avant-garde and noteworthy!

BOAK!!!!

I don't have make-up on in twitter profile picture' and I took it of myself on my phone, but the light made a vast difference to how I looked in it, & it took me three or four goes until I was happy with it!

Yes, I agree cailin.

I think it's annoying as well that they are still doing stupid poses at the camera - isn't half the point of not having to wear makeup meant to be that women aren't just there to be looked at? Whereas these shots are more 'look, some women are so amazing, they even look good without makeup!' with a nice subtext of '... but I bet you look shite, don't you?'.

When I don't wear makeup, the point is that I don't give a fuck how it looks, it's not that I'm trying to start off a new 'bare-faced' aesthetic.

What patronising bullshit. Maybe they could have a sponsored 'mum's do no housework day' as well or 'men don't drink pints and watch football weekend'. According to the quotes this may be 'empowering'.

It's just so pathetic isn't it? A bunch of women so proud of the fact that they're not wearing makeup. It's so disappointing.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/11/2012 09:04

I'm not blaming them, I blame the whole crappy stupid industry (I would be well chuffed if I looked like that - I know that's not terribly feminist, but it's true). I get what you mean - I don't think I would be 'proud' - but they're just the visible faces of this, there's a whole culture of thinking it's out there to not wear makeup and supermodels are the last people likely to be in a position to fight that.

Unbelievable! I mean, is it a joke?
Louise rednapp looking her typical beautiful self telling me she wants to make me feel empowered and confident? Eh? What is she on about?

If those women don't feel able to go out of the house without wearing makeup then that's very sad.

I mean, if any woman feels that then it's sad. But if you look like that...

They all have at least eye liner on & some mascara. Also have had their eyebrows done, if you look closely you can see the colouring under the eyebrows on their skin!
