To ask if makeup on 4 and 6 year olds is the done thing?

Family function today, small daughters of DH's cousin were wearing foundation, blusher, mascara and lipgloss.

It took me by surprise, I don't think I've ever seen children that young wearing makeup, except maybe lipgloss. This was a full face of slap (more than I had on tbh). It didn't look like 'play' makeup; it was absolutely applied by an adult, very properly done.

Is this weird, or am I completely out of touch? Do many four and six year olds wear makeup? AIBU to find it a bit odd?

If it was expertly applied they obviously didn't put it on themselves. Odd.

I think thinks like lipstick, body glitter , nail polish is okay

but foundation and mascara :S will be hard to get off.

DS asked for a full face of make up the other day, green eyeshadow, red lippy Grin

doing 'proper' make up on little children is strange and wrong IMO.

YADNBU- full face of makeup on little girls is vile. It seems to be becoming more common though sadly.

Im going to go with YABU. It was a special event a function, not something everyday. When I go out to birthday parties, weddings I put on some slap and my dd inevitably begs for some. Now I admit I have never put foundation on her just lip gloss, sparkly eye shadow a bit of blusher, nail varnish in the past, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it on other children nor do I find it weird.
Now i know ill probably get flamed for being a terrible mum and role model! !but I should add that my dc's and I often do makeovers on each other including their dad and granddad Grin my dc's pretty much live in fancy dress and are covered in sharpie tattoos!! They are both polite well behaved children who I am very proud of!! With how posters react to those who don't agree sadly I feel the need to defend my actions! Ohh well prepare the onslaught Grin

My dd (5) loves to play make up and I let her have sparkly eyeshadows and cheap make up palates from primani to play with. She does however put it on expertly like an adult as apparently she saw on you tube how to apply it whilst playing on her iPod? (i had no idea she could do this!). Therefore I cannot let her wear make up to go to parties as I am sure people would think the same thing. I thinking of getting her to do my make up next time I go out Grin

just a thought - do they go to dance class? or are they in a majorette troupe? if so, they'll be used to putting on full slap for performances, and might not see any difference.
