To be cross I was given a free gift?

I have spent half term cleaning and clearing out the house, including taking unwanted stuff to charity shops.

Yesterday I ordered some new trainers from Sports Direct.

Today they arrived, along with a free gift, which happens to be a pint size (or it could be bigger, it seems mahhhoooosive) mug with "Sports Direct" on it.

Why the hell would I want this? I have no room in my kitchen cupboards for it. Its ugly and useless. (Who drinks a pint of anything?)

I don't want it in my house.

I hate that! Mine's on my desk at work, full of pens and pencils.

workhouse · 02/11/2012 15:25

I mix paint in one, and the other one went to the charity shop. I like getting them it always make everyone laugh when we open the box...but I would't mind if they stopped now.

Blu · 02/11/2012 15:26

yes, (re tall pepole) but it presents something of a style challenge, drinking out of a Sports Direct mug - tall people deserve to be stylish too, you know.

MrsChristmasVamos · 02/11/2012 15:28

Well, I suppose they are good if people get some use out of them !

Lovecat Does the mug require double the amount of a 'normal' sized cup ? I'm just curious.

YouOldSlag I never thought of that. I would imagine if you are very tall, then 'normal' sized things like mugs could sometimes be problematic.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 02/11/2012 15:31

You can write in the comments box that you don't want one - they've been giving them away for years. They must have had a huge order and not been able to sell many...

DH loves his though. God knows why. I've hidden it.

whensteaready · 02/11/2012 15:35

I loathe sports direct with a passion. There is just so much stuff , you can't walk properly in the shop. There are always tons of teenage staff on the shop floor and one person serving. When you eventually get to the front of the queue they try and sell you a 70p bag for life.

And breathe!

Katisha · 02/11/2012 15:36

Mine has just become visible to me again thanks to this thread. It's been sitting on the worktop full of crap for a couple of years. Must get shot of it.

OddBoots · 02/11/2012 15:37

Ours works very well as 'the pen mug' on the desk.

halcyondays · 02/11/2012 15:49

We have two of those, got them when I bought water bottles for the dds from Sports Direct on eBay. As they were offering freeze postage at the time and the mugs came in huge boxes, it seemed a bit mad. DH was impresses with the size of them. We use them for soup.

cheekydevil · 02/11/2012 15:50

I drink two of these full of tea in the morning. I must have palatial mug cupboards and tea belly Blush

OneMoreChap · 02/11/2012 15:59

I drink out of pint, pint and half, quart mugs.

Morning doesn't start until well into 2nd pint of tea...
MIL once looked askance at me in a hotel when I was on my 5th "Naice cup"

Iodine · 02/11/2012 16:03

I hate the things, I can't lift them when they're full of tea.

PoppyAmex · 02/11/2012 16:04

They are seriously ugly but DH really took to it and now uses it to drink his tea.

I can even accidentally break it because I've done it with too many of his ugly things and he'd be on to me Blush

OneMoreChap · 02/11/2012 16:10

DW has occasionally broken one of the mugs accidentally "But they're horrid".

I now have one tin; one plastic and one Titanium

SolidGoldYESBROKEMYSPACEBAR · 02/11/2012 16:14

I wondered if this was going to be about the Worst Free Gifts Ever. I remember being very cross indeed when I got sent one 'For Mummy' via DS' nursery. Fucking slimmers' sweets and low calorie hot chocolate. I thought that was outrageously insulting, not to mention potentially harmful.

quirrelquarrel · 02/11/2012 16:19

I love huge mugs. Mine is big (and ugly- tacky capital city design, I got it as a present, but it's so big that it's now my mug! well, at home). You can always paint it and varnish it and make it look naice.

LynetteScavo · 02/11/2012 16:20

Oh, yes, I've had the slimmers bag of stuff from nursery "Don't just be a mum, be a slim mum" WTF?

I've obviously been looking at the mug all wrong. If I view it as a small bowl it's not nearly so offensive.

OP posts:
PoppyAmex · 02/11/2012 16:26

OneMoreChap, if DH gets titanium mugs I'm divorcing.

As if his million stupid random tech cables aren't enough...

OneMoreChap · 02/11/2012 16:32

Get him one for Christmas Grin

quirrelquarrel · 02/11/2012 16:32

LOL a small bowl!!
I don't know why but that's made me properly laugh Grin

FeckOffCup · 02/11/2012 16:50

I ordered from sports direct last year and my free gift was car flags with the England flag on them Hmm. I wish I had got a mug instead.

CelstialNavigation · 02/11/2012 17:01

What?? With the nursery slimmers thing? Is it some sort of company that is channeling these free packs through the nursery? Surely the nursery did not come up with that themselves? (they should've refused either way).

TwistyBraStrap · 02/11/2012 17:20

I have one of those.

DH was thrilled and made himself a giant cup of coffee. Once.

It's now in the cupboard.

Blu · 02/11/2012 17:22

oooh, I'd like one of those titanium mugs. The smaller cup size would be fone for me, though. I like to leave my coffee in the insulated cafitiere rather than cooling in a big mug.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/11/2012 17:24

We have two of these, and the dses use multiple tea bags in them to make a strong enough cuppa - they are costing us a fortune!

You would not be at all unreasonable to destroy this mug, crushing the fragments until they are as dust.
