I had about five loads of washing which I decided to get washed as I felt I was drowning in it. (pregnant, 3 other dcs and itys half term). All good so far.

Laundrette came collected and have just returned it all washed and folded up - great. However, I nearly fell over when he said it was £100!!!!!!!!

I know I shoul have checked the price but have used before and the same amount to be washed and ironed was £20 more

Collection and delivery would have added to the price - but it's likely down to the fact that they thought you were 'rolling in it' not to trudge down there yourself. I've found that my local shops and tradesmen (not the national chains) often gear their quotes to how much money they think you have and not to how much the job might truly be worth. (I live in an area with very mixed levels of income.)

Fuck me, I would have died on the spot. I wish I could make that much doing someones laundry! except my machine makes everything really really fluffy.

awkward. do you live in a very wealthy area, where people might reasonably be expected to have that amount of money to spend on washing?

'my' laundrette, where i regularly use service wash, got the idea they could charge what they liked and prices doubled. don't know if that was the same for everyone or if they thought i'd be too dim to notice. so i started taking less, measuring the amount (close to same wash each week), asked them to dry slightly under-dry (for ironing) rather than over-dry and told them the upper limit of how much i want to pay. they've been as good as gold since, and the weekly wash is back to six or seven pounds.

Yes it was an ironing shop that do laundry, no laundrettes round here (that I know of)

No I haven't got an expensive car, is 6 or 7 years old!

I do live in a mixed income area.

I defintley should have checked the price in advance.

I might write to them and it is true that I probably would have used them again over the next few months as I am being induced in less than 3 weeks. However I still have loads of stuff iwant to do before baby so may not get round to it)
