to think that owning a flatscreen TV proves nothing about someone's income

Here is a flatscreen TV from Brighthouse

As you can see the APR is horrible but the weekly payments are fairly affordable. They are designed to be.

Now that we've established how people on low incomes can afford flatscreen T.V's, perhaps we can move on to accepting the legitimacy of people wanting nice things in their houses even supposing they have less money to you, or indeed different taste.

And then maybe we can have an adult conversation about the problems facing this country without it descending into a mean spirited picking apart of the minutiae of how individual working class people choose to spend their limited money.

Jeez Angry

Annaliza: Why is it odd though? If the house is shabby then its clear she's prioritised this one nice TV that she wanted but hasn't been able to get the decor to go with it. That's her choice and her right.

We all make choices like that. For example I have a fish tank that cost £500 or thereabouts but not a wardrobe.

Ah Dash, but if you put you kindle book list end to end would it be cumulatively larger than your tv? You also have to find somewhere for Pippa's Party Planning book natch! NO comments about shallow as a flat screen ahem!

I'm not a BrightHouse customer but have looked into what they provide. 29.9% interest. Much the same as most credit. Ok, I used to have a store card at 34%, I paid the minimum on it as I was on a v poor wage and ended up paying 3x over for items I had long since put in the charity shop. At least BrightHouse put the end figure there for all to see. Please don't sit in judgement of people's circumstances. (not a religious person but) as my Gran used to say 'there but for the grace of God, go you.' Of course people would pay cash if they could, but not everyone is so privileged!!
