Leaving dc with elderly step grandad?

Me, dh and dc are staying at MIL's tonight, with me and dh booked in for a fancy dinner 20 minutes away at 830, after the kids are in bed.

MIL and dh seem to think it's ok for her to drive us, leaving dc in the care of her husband who is much older than her, in his 90s and not very mobile. They should be asleep but I still say no way, we can take a taxi.

you know your dc's, if they will not stay in bed get a taxi

How old are DCs? Do they normally go down OK?

No, I would not want to put the responsibilty onto a 90 year-old with mobility problems, not fair on him and be worried about dc. Just say you wouldn't hear of imposing and have ordered a taxi.

I'd feel more comfortable booking a taxi for both ways. Having said that, how old and how mobile are dcs?

You just can't say when something as important as the kids ages has been left out of the OP.

If I were you I'd get a taxi anyway. You won't fully enjoy your evening if you're worrying.

Sorry, dc are 4 and 11 months. Older one stays there regularly but the little one hasn't been for months. I think it's worth a taxi to not worry.

YANBU. IF they were 8 and 10 and sensible, fine, but 11 months, no!

Probably not bearing in mind their ages. My dad is 75 and his mobility isnt great. He has dd who is five for the odd hour here and there. Weve just gone back to having him do night-time babysitting as dd can sort herself out now shes older and hes shown us he is ok with the stairs in an emergency. Shame as he would have dd more often if he could manage it.

At those ages I wouldn't take the chance. What if the 11 month old wakes up.

My nan is in her 70's and mobility isn't great. She has DS to stay who is nearly 5 and doesn't require picking up etc but she wouldn't be able to have DD yet who is 20 months, she would love to but knows that she can't.

nooo! I don't leave my DDs with their granddad and he's only 68! He forgets things though he's not senile.

He'd let them have a lager or something ridiculous.
