to think that Nigella has lost the plot?

I love her - she is a terrific cook, she's completely gorgeous and has a real zest for life. Up until now I had always thought she was a bit bonkers in a campy fun sort of way. But I have just watched her cook chocolate fusilli with butterscotch sauce because 'sometimes you come in from work and just can't decide whether to have chocolate or pasta for dinner - so why not have both!'

Hmm

I can handle a lot of wankery and pretentiousness and off the wall stuff around food but even I have my limits. In fact, this whole Nigellissima series has been mad - hardly any of the dishes had anything Italian about them. Will stick with her 'Kitchen' book which I adore and read for fun

I honestly don't think she ever had the plot...

Do you not think she gets off with the food?! Cooking really isn't that sexy...

Lottapianos · 29/10/2012 21:17

'I honestly don't think she ever had the plot...'

Grin

I think she just likes camping it up for the camera. She absolutely loves food though and I relate to that, but all the wankery really does get a bit too much - she described some leeks in a pan as a 'gorgeous jade tangle' Hmm

I'm afraid I left team Nigella after the comment about coming across a recipe in a book in a cupboard in the villa in Italy we rented for the summer.................................... as you do.

Meanwhile back in dullsville the plebs buy my aspirational books.

Not this one, love

BadgersBottom · 29/10/2012 21:17

This series I found myself wondering if she films with an extra large set of love balls in place. She always has that odd kind of look on her face.

As for the chocolate fusilli - what's up with you lot? You mean you don't come in from work and fix that for a quick snack? Philistines!

squeakytoy · 29/10/2012 21:18

If that woman could get away with using a rampant rabbit instead of a wooden spoon, I am sure she would...

She is ridiculous...

nancy75 · 29/10/2012 21:20

We were just saying we wouldn't want to go for her house for dinner, eight tiny chops between four people? We we have to stop for chips on the way home

missmalteser · 29/10/2012 21:21

Ooh I do love a good nigella thread :) haven't watched it yet but it sounds horrendous! The baked mince pizza also had me :o

TandB · 29/10/2012 21:23

I've just watched her for the first time ever tonight!

Is everything that comes out of her mouth an innuendo?!

Seriously. She manages to make "cooking the mushrooms" sound filthy.

Katisha · 29/10/2012 21:23

How about the melted licorice in cornflour thing last week?

HeinousHecate · 29/10/2012 21:25

Sorry? Pasta, chocolate and butterscotch?

has she been on the scotch?

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 29/10/2012 21:26

I love pasta and I love chocolate. If I had to pick they'd be first and second on my.list. so you'd think I'd love the novely bag of chocolate flavoured pasta I was bought for my birthday. It was 4 years ago and its still unopened. I just cannot bring myself to try it.

That said, is what she's making that far removed from something like rice pudding?

Catsmamma · 29/10/2012 21:27

I've yet to forgive her for that series where she cooked some sort of not very big chicken with a brandy sauce....it was pink and bloody as she carved it at the table, to her three or four friends, with assorted children and still had two legs and most of the breast left for her post credits midnight feast.

Dozer · 29/10/2012 21:27

Grin badgersbottom!

onemorechoccybiccy · 29/10/2012 21:27

Drinking pea soup from a flask in the back of a black cab then eating all the biscuits (or whatever it was) that she had made for a friend before she arrived at her house did it for me.

Stupid farking beach!

SherlockGnomes · 29/10/2012 21:28

Also..every third of her cake recipes DOES NOT WORK and she has clearly rammed in without actually trying it...makes me vear cross

SherlockGnomes · 29/10/2012 21:29

every third? whaaa'? I mean one in three, or every third recipe...or something?

Viperidae · 29/10/2012 21:32

I think she's overdoing the interesting use of english now. She described some ham as "pink as a kitten's tongue" the other week. She must sit and rack her brain before filming for phrases and words to casually scatter in.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 29/10/2012 21:32

Nothing we ever did out of a Nigella book ever worked.

I have always thought her ridiculous and not in touch with the real world, I can imagine her being friends the the Osbornes and Camerons...

Viviennemary · 29/10/2012 21:33

I quite like Nigella as she is entertaining to watch on her cookery programmes. But she's just an actress. It isn't real.

Autumnchill · 29/10/2012 21:36

I want her kitchen though! Was watching one the other day where she said she liked to go into the pantry and stroke the shelves!!

Binkyridesagain · 29/10/2012 21:38

sometimes you come in from work and just can't decide whether to have chocolate or pasta for dinner
The answer is chocolate surely!
Chocolate= no cooking, instant gratification.
Pasta=popping to shop because you realised you haven't enough to feed everyone, boiling water, salting water, dumping pasta in pan, putting lid on, pan boils over, gas goes out, swearing because the fucker won't light again, burn hand on spilled boiling water trying to dry hob. Swear again, reach for chocolate, sit on sofa with take away

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 29/10/2012 21:41

YANBU.

I actually worry about her.

Phacelia · 29/10/2012 21:42

YANBU she is crackers.

justmyview · 29/10/2012 21:42

Her toad in the hole recipe in "Kitchen" is brilliant. Generally I find her quite smug and irritating, although I do think most of her recipes work well (if you like quite rich food)

apostropheuse · 29/10/2012 21:44

I actually think she's very funny. It's so tongue in cheek!

I have to say I've never tried the recipes, but I watch her programme just for the laugh.

I particularly love her Christmas shows.
