My Dh thinks its fine !

I think it's gross and a bit rude.

He thinks I'm being over sensitive.

Aibu ?

Yes we had a mat . There wasn't any changing facilities. We weren't sure if it was a poo or a wee, 'cos couldn't tell before we changed him!

We didn't do it in the end because I told him it was too gross, but we still disagree ! He is normally very sensible lol, but having a baby has caused us o disagree over everything!

I had to change ds in a pub with no changing facilities (poo - I would have waited until we were somewhere else just for a wet nappy). The bar staff said to use a table! I did it because there's not much else you can do really, but ideally places families are likely to spend time in should have somewhere for changing nappies really.

Themobstersknife · 28/10/2012 21:19

Sorry, where do you live. If in the Uk, yes YABU AND YABI (insane). It is frikkin freezing. Even without changing facilities, do it inside somewhere! Nutjobs!

GhostShip · 28/10/2012 21:21

I think this is funny, especially after the thread the other day were people were spitting venom over people not washing their hands after using the toilet.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 28/10/2012 21:27

'People actually eat off of garden tables?
That's odd. I tend to use a plate or a sandwich box.'

I wish my kids did.

WorraLiberty · 28/10/2012 21:31

Well if they don't Tunip I'd say a changing mat on the table is the least of their worries, unless the birds and squirrels tidy up after themselves Grin

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 28/10/2012 21:39

LOL Worra.

mluddy · 28/10/2012 21:42

I think if you have dc who have nappies it's fine but to anybody else it's foul.

Much like changing your dc's squidgy poo on my living room carpet. Fine, when I was doing it. Now that I'm not, could you use the bathroom please.

fluffypillow · 28/10/2012 21:44

I wouldn't do it. I would change my baby on my lap if I couldn't find baby changing facilities but that's because she wriggles like an eel on speed, and the shit would go everywhere

Don't really care what other people do though tbh. After having 3 babies, takes alot more than that to gross me out Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/10/2012 21:49

YANBU - it's vile.

halloweeneyqueeney · 28/10/2012 21:53

when stuck for change areas (or if the change area really minged) I'ld change DS in his pram with the hood up facing me by lying it flat and sliping the change mat under him, I wouldn't do it up on a table, its a bit.. public! a bit of a performance! at a push I'ld use my lap or the seat beside me so its a BIT private not up on top of the table

Am I the only one grossed out by having the changing mat which you then take home with you and put in your bag touch the dirty surfaces like tables, floors etc. I need some kind of disposable liner to go UNDER the mat to keep that clean so it doesn't transfer dirt to the bag. I know I is a freak

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 28/10/2012 21:58

I'm the opposite BitchSister. My changing mat has been on all kinds of public toilet floors. The reverse is probably the germiest surface in the house and that's the bit that would be in contact with the pub table if I were to change a dc on one.
(It has been Dettolled, of course, but the invisible miasma remains.)

halloweeneyqueeney · 28/10/2012 22:08

bitchsister, my change bag included some detol wipes, some people leave change areas in a filthy state! I didn't wanna just pop my change mat back in my bag there either

maddening · 28/10/2012 22:20

As long as the table is clean baby should be fine - or if the baby is on a mat on the table.

Once it's cold might not be best for the baby.

WelshMaenad · 28/10/2012 22:32

Utterly minging. I mean, would you pull up a chair at a baby changing station and tuck into your fish and chips?

MrsKeithRichards · 28/10/2012 22:37

I don't see why it would ever be necessary, there is always a better alternative.

OldMumsy · 28/10/2012 22:41

This is the poo of a tiny baby human person. Could you not try to feel around inside yourself for a real person to be OK with it?

vixcyn · 28/10/2012 22:43

PMSL, WelshMaenad! I have such a visual in my head...

Mia4 · 28/10/2012 22:48

A friend of mine once made the comment that if (general) we 'don't want people to expect and tout that a baby should be breastfed in a place where people shit and piss, we shouldn't expect people to want to eat at a place where a baby has pissed and shit'. Regardless of whether it's a loo or in a nappy.

She said this to our mutual friend that changed her babies shitty nappy on the table admists our (thankfully) empty plates and the young childrens 'ewwww's from the next table over. Got to say, didn't go out for lunch with that friend again. Not only did she do that, she didn't wash her hands or baby wipe them after and left the nappy folder in a ball on the seat!

I'd never do it. Worse comes to worse there's my car or I'd find a table in another place.

JudeFawley · 28/10/2012 22:57

Unless there was absolutely no possible alternative, no.

BarredfromhavingStella · 28/10/2012 23:06

YABU, i'd change a nappy just about anywhere-I have a changing mat, it's fine (unless it's freezing as that is just plain unfair Grin)

WelshMaenad · 28/10/2012 23:12

Once they're on solids, oldmumsy, shit is shit. I bet you couldn't discern the shit of my two year old from the shit of an adult. Not even on the grounds of quantity, the child is very productive.

Minshu · 28/10/2012 23:12

I would choose using the ground rather than a table. Does DH have mobility issues?

Most stoopid place I've witnessed is on the ground under the big round swing in our local park so no one else could use it Angry they didn't even put kid back in afterwards
