To use Defrosted chicken that has been frozen for over a month?

I usually buy fresh meat and freeze it for use over the next few weeks This particular batch has slipped through the net and has an early September date but has obviously been frozen since I bought it. I think I read that fat in the meat can still go off? Or is that just mince?

marriedinwhite, we don't like turkey, but I often buy the boxes of fancy Christmas fayre (Three bird roasts, Christams Hams, improbable things they don't have the rest of the year) bung 'em in the freezer and ressurect them form Easter onwards with no ill effects.

I think that's how I acquired the Ducks of Doom.

I eat meat that has been in the freezer for years.

I eat stuff after months/years too. Glad to know that it's just quality that deteriorates, after reading some other threads on here I was starting to wonder if I was being totally naive thinking that a freezer preserved things nigh on forever.

I meant - there are always heavily reduced turkeys at about 4pm on Xmas Eve and I have never been brave enough not to order a full priced one in advance as well. I don't have a problem about freezing the reduced one and eating it three/four months later.

i have no idea how long all the stuff has been in my freezer.
every time i cook i stick some in there for another day
then its pot luck what comes back out on any given day since nothing is labelled or dated and it all looks the same with frost on!

i think some things say a month on the packet normally fish,
but fresh chicken and mince i wouldnt think twice about, they dont last that long anyway.

I'm just wondering if this is your Percious First Frozen Chicken?

I only recently spotted the label on my chicken fillets said something like Freezable - use within 1 month. Must admit it did send me into a very mild panic because I thought you could keep meat frozen in the freezer for yonks. Glad to have read this thread and clarified the situation. WHY did they put that on the packet though?

Goes off to root around in freezer...
