to not allow my daughter to have bratz and monster high dolls

my daughter is 8 this christmas and keeps asking for a monster high doll.
last year she wanted a bratz doll but we got her other stuff that she wanted as i just hate these dolls.
I just feel they are completely innaproprialy skinny and have silly lollipop heads. The brats look like baby prostitutes and the monster high ones are also really tarty.
she has some disney princess dolls that she plays with loads- a belle and rapunzle but although these are slim they are at least not dressed tarty and are in long dresses.
maybe im being neurotic but i just feel these dolls are horrid??
anyone else feel the same??

Yanbu. Don't know the monster high dolls, but I dislike the brats dolls. My dd is not particularly into dolls but she got given a bratz doll which went missing after a couple of months as it mysteriously fell into the bin during a toy cull. Personally not keen on any of those kind of dolls and I don't encourage them, but wouldn't ban them either.

im not saying she cant dress alternative, ive have all haircolours under the sun, i had pillar box red dreads in my teans and i happily tell her show her the pics, my husband is a skinhead and we both wear doc martins and i have several goth style tattoos down my side/ ribs and thigh and a 1/2 sleeve tat down my r arm so please spare my the ' how would you feel about her being alternative'. Its her choice to dress how she chooses and play with what she chooses within appropriate boundaries. actually since talking to DH she apparently told him in town today that she would rather have some clothes for her baby for christmas as she only asked for one so her friends wouldnt think she was a baby!
This has confirmed my suspicion that she wanted it cos everyone else does and not cos she actually like it anyways.
you are intitled to your own opinions and i appreciate your responses but I think you need to remover your judgey pants before assuning that i am trying to stop her from being who she wants to be!!!
Actually in a few years all kids will be wanting to be goth as thats becoming so mainstream now with the tim burton stuff and MH etc becomming so popular!
Maybe it will become cool to just be straight laced instead of alternative as actually its not so 'alternative' now is it!??

whathaveiforgottentoday that doesn't make sense.

You wouldn't ban them but you throw them away when your child isn't around?

7InTheBed · 27/10/2012 22:20

I think you might be right 7inabed! It is popular now - Maybe DD will cringe when she is a teenage wearing M & S slacks and Clarks shoes when she sees how she liked to look when she was wee

I'm sitting here cutting up t shirts and putting holes in tights for her Punk costume for the Halloween school disco!

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:22

sorry 7inabed

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:23

see wanting it because EVErybody HAS IT is different from she likes it

HappyBloodBlackPumpkinEater · 27/10/2012 22:25

yep 7inthebed, still agree YANBU.

redlac that is how my teenager likes to dress all year round, given the option! (And I hated Bratz dolls - but then, so did she.)

redlac · 27/10/2012 22:30

At least it's easy to find clothes for her - I constantly have to drag DD away from black leggings, black top, black skirts! Mind you today she was eyeing up some docs which were bright yellow!

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:33

dd2 wants docs she saw them but the fake but she wants FUCKING PINK ONES

DD1 has real ones

CaliforniaLeaving · 27/10/2012 22:35

I never liked the look of bratz dolls and monster high look hideous. I haven't allowed any of either for DD who is 7.5 She did ask for bratz after playing with them at a friends but was happy with the toys she got and had forgotten all about them by Christmas last year. I told her she can put whatever she likes on her list, but she doesn't get all of it, and may not even get any of it. It depends on what is on there.

redlac · 27/10/2012 22:35

PINK FAKE ones?? At least get real ones even if they are pink :)

I'm itching to go to Braehead Shopping Centre as apparently Schuh have opened up a kids only with wee converse, vans, etc - don't know if there will be docs there though

7InTheBed · 27/10/2012 22:36

lol Mrsjay.
its ok, i know over the net its hard to read as the OP may intend especially when my typing is super bad on this pad!
but.... DD wears really alternative clothes... she actually chooses nice modest dresses and jeans with t shirts. I did take her shopping in the school holidays to get new clothes as she had a growth spirt and she went into next and grabbed the tight shorts and other stuff and when she tried it on she quickly decided that she preferred her cute t shirts and skinny jeans ( yes its not all clarks shoes and slacks redlac!!) she has a motorhead tshirt that she chose because she wanted one like daddy and she chose to have her hair braided like a rasta all summer- her choice!!! and.... when she wanted to team up her black and white stripy legging with a cut up old queens of the stone age top she did!!! she is also not unbeknown to want to wear what she wants all of the time!!!!

YANBU

When I saw Bratz dolls in a shop DH and I were thankful we had a boy. Tey are grim. Mind you, I was not allowed Barbie / Cindy as a child, only Pippa on similar grounds

7InTheBed · 27/10/2012 22:40

My DD had flowery DM when she was 4 and she has also had some MOD style kickers. they were so lovely, she like having DMs and me and DH wear them most of the time!!!! we got ours from clarks village in somerset, they did (dunno id still do) have a DM's outlet with seconds. they were about 20 quid- bargain!!!

PINK FAKE ones?? At least get real ones even if they are pink

i know tacky right but they are all over the shops ATM the fake ones I mean

7 i do get a bit high horsey sometimes I just dont see honestly int he harm in these dolls if we talk to our dds about body image and stuff then they can see them for what they are is just something to play with , IME i have had no adverse effects from DD2 playing with them well apart from she wants pink fake docs Blush

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:43

only Pippa on similar grounds

oh pippa dolls I had pippa I think cindy was too expensive but the pippa dolls were smaller if i remember right

catgirl1976 · 27/10/2012 22:47

Pippa was smaller - and not glam.....sort of sensible and outdoorsy Grin

I think she was bendy but I'm not sure

7InTheBed · 27/10/2012 22:49

DOCs are soooo cute on girls, my DD looks really cute in a dress and tight and docs!!! and she loves it, last year my dd5 spent all summer in wellies- she flippin loved em, peppa blooming pig ones too- really pink, but she was made up and insisted on wearing them.

"I'm very grateful my child prefers mh to Disney princess. I prefer not to promote the message that girls need a prince to rescue them and should be princess like and dainty.

Give me the monster kids, fangs fins and all, any day."

Tend to agree with this. Not convinced princesses are better. Not keen on Bratz, but MH have the advantage of not even pretending to be real girls.

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:52

she had sensible shoes if i remember right i wear sensible shoes now bloody pippa Grin

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:53

I think she was bendy but I'm not sure

I used to put her on my cousins evil kenivil bike and whoosh her down my nanas stairs she was durable if nothing else Grin

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 22:58

Dd1 used to wear dessert boots with dresses and tights when she was a toddler and it looked really cue.

Mrsjay · 27/10/2012 23:00
