To be shocked and angry about this

I was on my way to my local library with my 14 week old ds when this man was being friendly and came over to say hello. He is a neighbour. We talked a little and he proceeded to talk to my boy, saying how cute he was. And all of a sudden, he puts his grubby filthy fingers into my baby's mouth!!!!!!! WTAF????

Can I add that he sits around his front door all the time, doesn't work and smokes marijuana and maybe other drugs (ex said this ) and is filthy looking.

I can't get over this and I wish I said something but it happened so quickly and I'm still shocked by this. Am I over reacting?

Wtf, yanbu.

GhostofMammaTJ · 26/10/2012 20:10

Nah, YANBU!! Disgusting!!

hiddenhome · 26/10/2012 20:10

Good grief, that's a bit much.

I guess you could look on the bright side, the germs will build up your ds' immune system, so he'll be as strong as an ox for the next few weeks.....perhaps Confused

Put his fingers in your babys mouth

I have cooed over a LOT of babies, I have had my own babies and never have I heard of any old random sticking their fingers in a babys mouth.

You are not over reacting at all. Avoid avoid avoid in future.

HeinousHecate · 26/10/2012 20:11

That's very weird.

The only thing I can think of is he was checking for teeth?

but I have no idea why he would be checking for teeth [boggle] I just can't think of any other reason to do it.

not that he should do it for that reason Grin

aren't some folk odd?

Blimey, I don't think u r being unreasonable no to feel bad, cross or murderous about it. The shock must have been quite surprising. Seems like a case of "wish I'd done/said x at the time" though.

So work it thru, what do u wish u did? It's all hypothetical now so let loose! Just avoid this nut in future, politely, as he's plainly a bit worrisome.

People do feel allowed to tickle, touch grab at babies. Some right nasty old women have stuck their heads in dds pram. Nearly belted one myself.something about pregnancy bumps too, people touch those unasked. Weird...

I've heard about virtual strangers sticking their fingers in babies' mouths on MN before. It's bizarre, and disgusting, and I don't know what compels someone to do it Hmm

lljkk · 26/10/2012 20:15

Grim. Probably harmless, but serious Ewwwwwww...

Dryjuice25 · 26/10/2012 21:29

Thank you all. Thought I might be over reacting as I'm still incandescent about it 48 hours since it happened.

I would never even dream of doing something like this to someone else's baby. I don't really know this guy well as I've moved here less than a year but someone mentioned that he is schizophrenic and has attempted suicide before. I don't really understand this illness but wonder if this might have caused him to do this to my ds. I feel like I need to move now he seems unhinged and I have 2 daughters and now worry about his behaviour.

LaCiccolina- that's exactly how I feel.

No one should put their fingers in a babies mouth, grubby neighbour or otherwise!
