On Mumsnet people talk about things that are interesting them at the moment. On TV and in newspapers journalists try to write about things that are interesting people at the moment. There's always going to be a lot of thing that get talked about in the media and Mumsnet.

Thanks for the thoughts/suggestions. A lot of it makes sense. I agree I don't come back soon or often enough to threads I start.
And my style- it must be journalisty. I'm not sure I can change it though. I'm not sure how- it's very 'me'. Perhaps posters will get used to it and just roll their eyes, think it's 'her' again (she's not a journalist!) and move on.

The choices are write a little more personally or accept people will question your motives.

see, if we were really cynical, we'd think that a journalist who was being accused of being a journalist wanted to get people to think of them as not a journalist, they might start a thread trying to convince people they weren't a journalist, and ending with a suggestion that people just get used to their style

I am clearly one of the more cynical here, I suspect the OP is trying to convince us she is not. Rather than name change and change writing style. Which would be easier.

Its not very interesting sparkling and for someone who loves to chat, she finds it difficult to adjust her style to chat.
When I chat to different people my style would be slightly different. I would not chat to my 8 year old the same as a friend or my mum.

You are also right that MN isn't for everyone. I was on another parenting website for a while, but its not really for me. MN is.
