School inspection

cheekypickle · 24/10/2012 20:32

My school has a local authority inspection coming up soon and I'm so anxious about it. I feel like ill do a bad job and let everyone down.

I feel like I'm better off going sick so that the school don't have me in for the inspection

AIBU?

You aren't being fair to the children you teach or your colleagues - you need to go sick and get yourself properly better. You have been extremely ill and you need serious time - which you are entitled to - to get better properly.

Have you spoken to your support team/psych about how you are feeling?

Are you getting regular counselling to help you with the way you feel about things/anxiety?

cheekypickle · 24/10/2012 21:10

Yes CBT

You don't enjoy it anymore as you don't sound very well at all.

cheekypickle · 24/10/2012 21:10

Support worker came around tonight. She said to let head know how I'm feeling.

Well then, first thing tomorrow go and see the Head and discuss the fact you aren't coping and work out a plan forward.

cheekypickle · 24/10/2012 21:12

Will do

Good luck :)

teaching is a kind of living hell. but there is enjoyment in it. in a weird way. the stress is killing people though.

cheekypickle · 25/10/2012 09:36

It's so stressful!

Cheeky you never take the advice you are given.

Speak to ht and tell them how you feel.

givemeaclue · 25/10/2012 09:46

Could you take a job as a teacher assistant instead-less stress

fluffyraggies · 25/10/2012 09:48

You've had great advice OP. Nothing to add except that there is no shame IMO in admitting you're feeling too stressed to carry on teaching.

I'm not a teacher, but have spent allot of time working alongside them in primary school and i have to say i do NOT envy your job one iota! I'm not going to say teachers do a fabulous job, because some of them don't! But i admire them giving it a go at all tbh.

I've seen teachers struggling to carry on despite not enjoying their job and it makes for sad viewing. For the kids sake, and for the sake of the support workers - leave, take a step down, or arrange a long break. (hug)

OMG, Again? Really? Enough with the repetative threads. While I sympathised to begin with, it is getting boring now.

Just re-read threads 1, 2 3 and 4 on the same subject but with a (very) slightly different slant.

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 09:52

Perhaps try posting in MH for some advice of anxiety management?

ghost that is a bit harsh.

Yes, cherry has been checking and checking again....but its very common when suffering from anxiety.

Cherry, please get help. Its out there, and you deserve it ~ as do your family and the children you teach :)

Good luck.

DialMforMummy · 25/10/2012 10:30

If you are suffering from depression or/and anxiety, then you should seek help from you GP. Give CBT a try.
Taking time off every so often will not solve anything, will annoy your school (therefore diminish sympathy from management and colleagues) and might make you feel bad about yourself (because of letting the children down).
I realise it is difficult to seek help when you are in this state of mind, but if you want to get out of it, you have to be proactive.

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 11:46

OP is having CBT.

Loveweekends10 · 25/10/2012 12:28

We all get anxious about inspections. It's the word inspection but I don't think you will be doing anyone a favour going into it in this frame of mind. Go on sick let the school find cover in good time instead of leaving the school and the kids in the shit.
Longer term review your career options.you can't teach just because it pays more its not fair on the poor kids or yourself. I'm a teacher. I understand. There is a reason we are paid more than working in a supermarket. It's because it's stressful.

cheekypickle · 26/10/2012 13:22

Spoke to deputy head she said there's nothing to be anxious about. All SMT will check our plans beforehand to make sure they are good

So, 47 messages on this thread alone (not to mention the numerous other threads) and suddenly, all is well and hunky dorey as the Head says there is nothing to worry about.

Dont you think it would have been wise to ask the head first before getting into such a state.

Do you really think you are suited to being a teacher.

If you are suffering such anxiety and undergoing CBT, you really need to do something less stressful rather than stay where you are to avoid being 'depressed at home'.

Going sick is also a ridiculous option, I would be totally pissed off that my taxes were paying for you to pull a sickie as you had got yourself worked up over nothing, not to mention the disruption to the kids education.

I hope to god my child isnt in your class.

cheekypickle · 26/10/2012 13:42

Thanks

OP, you might have done better to have posted on the TES website, to avoid posts such as trifle's. Try the OFSTED or Health forums.
