AIBU to speculate on how much a $10,000 handbag actually costs to make?

I have always been Shock at the price of designer handbags and would never buy one because I can't afford one hate to buy into extortion for vulgar shows of wealth.

But how much do they really cost to make? I am sure much more of the cost is to pay for the branding and therefore why just why would you pay for the branding of a company?

The Fendi Mink bag at $10000 just makes me feel nauseous.

£20 an hour isn't low wages!

Good fakes ie made with the same materials and standards but not by the design house, cost a couple hundred pounds. I would quite like a Mulberry that's about £1k so that suggests the mark up is about 200%.

I love love love designer handbags (and high street ones....just love bags!) but even if I had oodles of money I couldn't spend £10k on one, that is just madness!

It's been interesting to hear the informed comments on here; I know that they're marked up but at the time we had the money so why not? And I agree, my MIL was an avid bag collector...think all the quilted Chanel bags....she has them in all the colors, and were bought 20 years ago and still going strong today; you do get what you pay for. None of my high street bags have lasted more than a year...and I treat all bags the same...flung on the floor full with tissues, toy cars, felt tip pens, etc etc.

The zip went on my Jimmy Choo bag after 4 years, took it back to shop and they put a new zip on it for me....how's that for service?

Our circumstances have changed an awful lot this year so it's nice to still have a nice bag to swing about :-) (until I have to sell them on eBay!!!)

My mum had wardrobes full of handbags. When we cleared them out all of us daughters were 'why why? I don't want it - no you have it!' They all went to Marie Curie.
