Seriously I was like this Shock for a moment till she explained.

It was actually really clever. They all had to walk round the room, each holding a test tube. Test tube contained some white fluid . Two test tubes had been spiked with another invisible substance (representing the STI). Every time the music stopped they had to share fluids with somebody . Some people had stoppered test tubes so they couldn't share fluids. At the end (after three 'exchanges') they used some indicator something and revealed that the 2 infected tubes had infected 12 others. In total flap of misapplied anxiety I asked dd1 'which group were you in'
'Oh, I wasn't infected' she replied
'Jolly well done darling' sayeth I 'Is that because you had a stopper in'?

They do NOT tell you about this sort of thing at antenatal classes.........

That sounds fantastic! Clever lesson that.

shrinkingnora · 22/10/2012 18:41

That is a brilliant lesson!

tiredteddy · 22/10/2012 18:42

That actually sounds really very clever!

Sirzy · 22/10/2012 18:42

Fantasitic idea to show it!

I would have loved to see your expression before she started explaining though!

Annunziata · 22/10/2012 18:43

That's so clever!

I did laugh at the 'practical demonstration' Grin

fuzzpig · 22/10/2012 18:43

That is GENIUS.

I wonder what the white fluid actually was?

Hassled · 22/10/2012 18:43

That is inspired. You should write to the teacher and tell him/her how genius that was.

gordyslovesheep · 22/10/2012 18:44

it's an oldie but a very effective one!

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 22/10/2012 18:44

That's a great way too show it. When I did sex education they just shown us horrible pictures!

beamme · 22/10/2012 18:45

I had to read to find out what you meant, was a bit Shock at title.
I love the idea, great way to get through to the kids. How old is DD?

youarewinning · 22/10/2012 18:45

Thats Genuis. LOL @ "is that because you had the stopper on in" Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 22/10/2012 18:46

Please tell me this was not Reception.

KenLeeeeeee · 22/10/2012 18:46

Brilliant demonstration! I hope it made the class think.

IvorHughJackolantern · 22/10/2012 18:47

'Jolly well done darling' sayeth I 'Is that because you had a stopper in'?

Oh what a lovely mum you sound! That sounds brilliant. All I remember from PSE is the teacher - who looked like an angry, over-boiled beef joint wearing ghastly shoes - got us all to write the word 'masturbation' then bollocked us for not knowing how it's spelt Confused

No, not reception! Grin

Dd1 is 14 and in Year 10. It's not a moment too soon either. She knows some of her year have had more than one partner already.

That is so funny.

I would have paid good money to have been able to see the look on your face when she came out with that

NoToastWithoutKnickers · 22/10/2012 18:50

Fantastic idea! We were never taught that such things existed.

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 22/10/2012 18:58

Oh I was Shock x 5000! Not what you expect when you ask 'how was your day'

I'm going to casually mention it to dh when he comes home. If I'm lucky his head might spin right round with panic Grin

It is a good idea. We got a 45 minute lecture with hideous slides of infected genitals. Three girls fainted. (All girls school).

Brilliant! I once watched a year 10 sex ed lesson where they paired the boys and girls up and gave them a dice. Rolling the dice represented the 'couple' having unprotected sex. If it landed on an odd number they got pregnant and the boys had to shout out 'whose the daddy?' and the girl was given a teddy to hold. The even number represented a lucky escape. The kids found it hilarious for about two minutes until they realised that they had ten kids and it suddenly stopped being funny. I love anything that makes subjects like this more 'real' for teenagers.

WorraLiberty · 22/10/2012 19:05

What a brilliant idea. I'm sure they'll remember that lesson forever!

KatzGold · 22/10/2012 19:06

That's a great lesson. Well done her teacher.

Pickles77 · 22/10/2012 19:07

That's brilliant

TidyGOLDDancer · 22/10/2012 19:07

That was such a good idea! Well done that teacher!

FredFredGeorge · 22/10/2012 19:09

So if you shove a stopper in the end of a penis everything's okay?
